Conquer Club

Over the past few months there have been changes made to the community guidelines. I am sure that it sounded like a good idea to make this site more " P. C." The administration probably feels that in the long run it would increase membership, increasing revenues. Otherwise why put the current membership and the volunteer mods thru the painful growing pains of change?
I've been here since 2007, when c.c.'s policy was pretty liberal, basically if you didnt like things you were told to foe them and or suck it up cupcake was a common response. Neither of these approaches are perfect, although personally i would like C.C. to relax their guidelines, but i digress.
The current problem with the more conservative approach that has been taken is that there seems to be a lack of consistency with the enforcement of the rules, it seems that certain people can push the envelope time and time again and the mods will look the other way, as well as some current and past mods seem to get more lee way.
My post isnt to bash the mods, but if things continue, the guidelines need to be enforced objectively and consistently for everyone.
Perhaps there should be a section of c.c. for people who arent easily offended, possibly age restricted, I know C.C. doesnt want to be responsible for managing personal info, fine, perhaps follow ebays system, or craigslist, where you the user in order to enter an age restricted section of the site need to check a box saying you are over the age of "x" simple enough, no documentation required.

tell me about it. i was just called "jackass", "poopface" and "doo doo brown" by mibi within a thread and nothing was done about it. openly flaming and baiting a member within the GD and when i brought it to an admins attention i was told they were not flames. i was told everything i felt was an offense is not an offense. surely if i baited and flamed a member by calling them "jackass", "poopface" and "doo doo brown", i would receive a ban without any question. however, since mibi is a former member of the extended CC family, nothing happened to him. sure, they'll tell you that you don't know what happens and who gets warnings. but this was over the course of a few days within the same thread and was easily worth a 24 hour ban for flaming and baiting within the forums. double standards and a lack of consistency, that is what i have come to expect from the forums as of late...-0

p.s.-oh, and nice temporary lock on the thread where prime insulted members and never came back to explain his statement... i assume this is like the "temporary lock" on the tournament newsletter that contained the horribly bigoted interview with a 12 year kid that nobody bothered to edit other than another kid under the age of 15...

I am of mixed feelings here. The real truth is that the standards for what is and is not offensive keep changing everywhere.

In our parent's and grandparent's day, folks living in a community pretty well knew what was and was not acceptable. Now, the rules have just changed and it is sometimes hard for anyone to know what they really are.

That said, this site is an internet site, open to all. They tried Flame Wars for a while, but it did not work. Apparently, the people posting there just caused too many problems. So, if you want to blame someone, blame them

As for uniformity... I think true uniformity is hard when the group (including mods) is so diverse. Maybe the idea of one mod being able to issue any penalties (instead of just the "heavier" stuff) needs to be reviewed a bit, but that would be hard to implement and I have the feeling it won't happen for that reason.

why would you blame the people in flame wars? it was contained to flame wars and rarely spilled over. flame wars was removed for whatever reason, and it is unfair to blame the people that frequented that forum. toss in the juvenile prank used to remove their forum without warning and i absolutely have no idea how you can blame anyone that was involved in flame wars. did i like flame wars? no. did i frequent flame wars? only on occasion to revisit some of the epic and hilarious threads that existed within the forum. do i miss flame wars? yes.

i feel badly for the people that had created their little niche on CC and had it removed. the deletion of FW's and the reshuffling of the forums has done very little for traffic in the areas that were shuffled to increase traffic (still waiting for those promised stats), and has created some animosity within the forum community. "if it could happen to them, it could happen to us." anyway, i understand the move towards a more family friendly site, but you can't blame the flame wars folk for the current trigger happy ban status and the often laughable uneven moderation that occurs. the rules apply to some, but not to all. say what you want, but that is how i feel, and i read more and more people agreeing with me every day. look at the last onslaught by a clan when one of it's members was banned for being a multi. obviously none of them had ever gone through the process and were literally shocked at how it was handled. for those of us often tossed under the ban bus, it was just another day on CC...-0

I never once looked in the thread Flame Wars when it existed, probably because I had no idea what it meant. But the idea of it doesn't sound half-bad. Maybe there should be like an age check to make sure someone is over 18 or something or just like a warning before people enter. Possibly the 1,000 Ways to Die approach?: "Warning: The deaths portrayed in this show are real and extremely graphic. Names have been changed to protect the identities of the deceased. Do not attempt to try any of the actions depicted. You will die!"

As from what i see. i see a couple things out of the mods and the cc'ers there seems to be 4 typs of posters here on this site group one 1 mods (they run the place and try to maintain the rules as of lack policy's) group 2. cc who just try to get by and move on and are not upset over flame wars and the banning of a few well liked trolls. group 3 the ones who are upset about the removal of flame wars, the banning of a few well liked trolls. (this group always yells at group 2 and says they flame and the group 1 dose not do anything about it cause they are just sucking up to the mods. these people love to get others banned cause they feel like since they were banned once and given punishment we all should feel it too. and group 4 the people who are new and do not know the old ways.

group 5, people who have a sense of humor, who are not easily offended, who can take a joke, and ocassionally cross the p.c. line

To be honest I actually like this post. It may not have been well written, but it did make a point. The point ofc was directed at the 3rd group that he discussed, but nonetheless (can't believe nonetheless is one word) it did make a point.

p.s. I had something to say about the topic of this thread, and it was pretty interesting. It was locked though, and now I forgot what I wanted to say.

No flame wars was ok... didnt really work though. There was definitely some stuff that spilled over into other forums and plus there were continuous problems with some of the users there (anyone remember xHxIxTxLxExRx or whatever. That guys was an annoying thorn in the side of cc). If you ask me, getting rid of flame wars was a good thing for cc b/c it deterred some of the more hazardous and frankly unwanted cc'ers. Flame Wars was just a collection of the most obnoxious cc users with nothing better to do but insult each other in severely immature ways...some of them barely even played cc...and that is exactly the kind of crowd you dont want to attract as a website...especially if you're trying to keep things family friendly.

Owen is right if the forum rules cannot be upheld consistently by the moderators or the admins then there should be no privileged section for those of a certain age.
