Can one of the mods / admin point me in the direction of what got him the 6 month "vacation"?

I was in Live Chat when people were asking him what happened. He said that he reported five members' posts, and all those members received some kind of warning (I can't remember the exact word he used), but then he was banned for excessively reporting...

I think that's the jist of it.

I was one of the x that got a warning.... laughable really considering it was on topic but I guess we're supposed to be more sensitive to his feelings. Guess he rode the short bus to school after all.

owenshooter's six-month ban was not exclusively for reporting posts in an erroneous manner. He received the ban do to a build up of several reasons which were explained in the ban message he received upon receipt of the ban. If he chooses to focus on the reported posts portion of the reasoning behind his ban, he is free to do so, but that is not the entire story.

However, in the interest of confidentiality the admins and volunteers will not be divulging all the nitty-gritty details of his ban. If owenshooter wishes to do so he obviously has every right to do so.

I'm sure we will all see him again in 6 months when his ban has run its course.

How many 6-month bans does one get before it becomes a permanent one ?

Under our retooled escalating punishments policy a user can get repeated 6-month bans for a rather long time, or if it is deemed necessary in special circumstances the admins still reserve the right to issue a permanent ban. However, I don't believe we have a "set number of 6-month bans leads to a permanent ban policy" at the moment.

this is pretty messed, I saw flames from many people including mibi towards owen and he has every right to use the report post feature... I'll add more later but I'm only going to be on the computer 5 more minutes this evening.

I thought I read that somewhere.... unfortunate. However a 6 month ban is enough to give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

Wouldn't it benefit both CC's administrative reputation as well as the community at large to ditch this "we don't give explanations for bans" nonsense policy that you guys currently have? If we had some kind of precedent for the kinds of things that can get you these extended forum bans, there probably wouldn't be quite as much hostility towards the mods, and generally the forums would be more pleasant (and more populated). I have been a member here for about 3 years now, and I can attest that the forums have progressively gone downhill during my time here, in large part because of these covert punishments to some of the most active members on the forum.

For the benefit of everyone, I really hope this changes...and soon.

Nope, it is from an email Owen sent to Brett and the mods can check that out by reading brett's previous post in the BpB thread, which was written 5 minutes before that one.

So now we can get disciplined for asking CC to enforce it's rules, when based on warnings issued, the reports were founded?

WHAT in the world is going on here? WOW!

I spose those who report cheating will also be subject to punishment in the future.

I'm actually surprised you even have the gall to comment after your many infractions, sure you got away with most of them but you still committed them ;)

what in the world???

owenshooter is teaming with me in a few games plus a tournament, how do we manage this? can he still take his turns and be banned for forum posts for 6 months? or how does this work? does he just miss his turns and we as his partners just get screwed? :-s I don't know if I like that IF that is the case.

I think he also received the ban for trolling and baiting (whatever those nebulous terms mean).

Nope, he can still take his turns, he is just banned from the forums and receiving PMs/seeing wall posts.

Yeah, see, I actually think Owen's funny most of the time, except when he's accusing me of being a racist for whatever erroneous, silly reason.

I'll miss his witticisms and overly acerbic responses to posts in the forum. I'm sorry that he'll be gone for six months. I enjoyed every game I ever played with him, and I hope he can eventually overcome his misunderstanding with me and we can team up again.

Owen, if you're reading this, and I'm sure you are, hang in there. I look forward to your return.

Oh, I don't care either way. I just think that there's more to it (per Andy's message to mr. shooter) than just that he reported too many people.

well based on the fact that scott and others have received a warning and i haven't, i'm guessing that his 'spurious reporting' concerned me
