Sorry porken, you want get past the

clause in the Foundry Guidlines. Sorry man, its a great start though. (minus your toker...)

Allow me two totally divergent responses...

1) There is already a well-developed Jamaica map and this seems like a complete joke that shouldn't be taken seriously. The effort is nice, but, um, why?

2) Totally on the other hand, a lot of people love the Luxembourg map. If a very specific geographically realistic map can be created that contains less than 20 territories, I think there is a place for it on this site. Maybe this is the vehicle to do that...

In sum, if the goal is to usurp the Jamaica map in production, I think this should be binned. But if it's to create another strong small, playable map, I endorse the concept. maybe another Caribbean island (or other location) is the anser. But the idea shouldn't be dismissed if that's the goal. Many people love Luxembourg. We should have 4-5 "Luxembourgs" available. to players.

Yes, it's true, we have a map about Jamaica in development, but I think that this map could be different from cairnswk's version (that has a precise and particular gameplay).
We have many maps that represent the same place but with a different gameplay or theme. (an example europe/europa)

1. A map should be ‘inherently unique either in gameplay, location, or theme’.

Anyway is not possible to understand many things because there isn't a plan or an explanation about how the gameplay will work, names of regions, legend, features, etc etc.
More an idea that a working draft....

Nice start porkenbeans, draw all the required info and i'll move your map back in the drafting room ;)

[Moved]

This map has been moved into the Ideas subforum, as it does not meet the criteria for a Working Draft:

Drafting Room Guidelines

To be considered a Working Draft a project must be more than just an idea; a Draft should have a clear thematic focus, a plan for how the gameplay will work, and a basic image which should include:
    1. Territory Labels - temporary names or numbers will suffice, and are always open to change.
    2. Borders/Paths/Impassables - it should be made clear where territories do/do not connect.
    3. Bonus Areas - where combinations/groups of territories will award a bonus, this should be indicated on the map.
    4. Legend - speculative bonus values and explanations of any attack rules or gameplay features.
Draft images should not be larger than 630x600px (small image) or 840x800px (large image).

So sorry
I was not aware of cairn's Jamaica. My bad.
Should I just try a different island ? or can we have 2 Jam's ?

Also about the Game play and labeling and such, I was thinking of first creating a graphic representation, and then turning the other, over to 1 or 2 of the pros that are always so helpful at that stuff. I am sure that I can be able to draft someone that would want their name on a map. ;) All they need to do, is lay out what they want done, and I will be happy to "make it so". :D

After looking at cairns Jamaica, (which I like by the way), I can see that he is not making a true to life representation of Jamaica, with the actual "real world" territs. This being so,I think that my Jam. is unique enough to warrant consideration. Let me know the verdict. I will wait before proceeding any further. 8-)

The toker is Bob Marley. The first Jamaican icon that I thought of.
besides, we all know that it is tobacco that he's toking.

Porkenbeans, i can say i was surprised by your map, moreover that you didn't know that my Jamaica was in the Foundry, yet you post in the Foudnry all the time. :?
to say that my map is not based on true to life represenation of Jamaica, i think you need to re-examine the first page of the thread to look at the original map.
i have no objection for you to do another Jamaica map if that's what you really want to do, but please get your facts correct before you try to justify your efforts. :)

Not a real-life representation? You don't know about the activity in 17th Century Jamaica?

I did not see your map in the foundry cairn. But I do not really spend as much time in there as you might think. I am on the list to critique new maps, and do try to respond to the pms that I am sent. Maybe for guys like me, that do not have the time to search all of the various places, that they put maps in progress, there could be made a thread that lists ALL of the maps in one place, that are being worked on.
When I said "real world", I was trying to say today's real territs. With today's real names and boundaries. It looks like your map, in an attempt to create more territs, you have divided them up, and gave them fictitious names. Nothing at all wrong with that, and I am NOT trying to say that mine is better. Only that it is different and therefore unique enough to warrant consideration. I can easily just pick some other island to do, and would gladly do so if you are opposed to me doing this map. I respect your map making, and you really are one of, if not my favorite CC cartographer.

PS. I just went there again, and I can not find your map in any of the top 3 threads listed. New projects, main foundry, and final forge. Please think about pulling some strings and make a thread for ALL current maps in progress. I would have never even started this map if I had known about yours.

Sorry porkenbeans, but you're blind today  or something has got you flustered...it's at the top of the main foundry forum under the Classic Revamp in the announcements section, here.

And all the maps that are being worked on are "in the Map Foundry", why the hell would you want another list  when all you have to do is look and see what is there. Read, forgoodness sake.

Yes i have divided my territories up, but not into fictious names. Before making such claims, you would do well to research Jamaica to find that all my names on those terts are town names with the execption of St Mary, so i say everything on my map "is real world"

I think you're really having a bad day.

Yes you can have your map in that way if you want, but look in my thread and see what the reaction was to my original (which is far less graphic than you excellent work) before you embark on this journey. then decide if you map with that small number of terts and that layout is going to cut the mustard. It's the reason i changed my original towards what is there now.

:D Oh, there it is.
I must have just skipped over the announcement section, and just looked at the topics section. My bad.
Please forgive my rookie mistake. Like I said before, I am not really a Foundry expert by any means. I can infer from your tone, that you are not to keen on me pursuing this project. I can respect that. I think that I would probably feel the same way if I were you. So, I guess that I will just go ahead and can this one. A couple of hours is all that it took, so it's no big deal.
I just came off of a tour in google earth, I will now need to see if a couple of my prospects are taken or not. Fingers crossed. :P

edit- Crap, both are taken.

porkenbeans, my tone if it seems bad is not directed at you for wanting to make a Jamaica map.
As said, if that's your bend, then go for it.
I am more taken back by the fact that you didn't look before you started making statements about my map.
Go for it if you want to make another Jamaica map, and i wish you well. :)

Maybe there is a language thing going on. All I meant was, that it is NOT a current representation of the boundaries and labels that are in use today. Nothing more, nothing less. That said, I have a proposition for you. If the foundry is not opposed to this map, maybe you, with all your considerable experience, might consider taking it over, and doing the game play aspects of this Jamaica II. I will be more than happy, just to do the graphics. And since it IS a small map, maybe you can roll them out together at the same time. If not maybe you could suggest someone else that would like to put their name on it ? ;)

OK, that said, I will ask again- Is there anyone out there that considers themselves enough of a game play guru, that wants their name on a map. Here is your chance to step up and put your money where your mouth is. (so to speak). I will do it myself if I have to, It is a small map and should not be too much of a task. But like I said before. I am only interested in spending my time on graphics. I am really not interested in learning the other. ;)

Let me know on the roads and where you want them to connect. Please check all of my spelling and placements.
After we have all of the roads and connections set, you can figure out the bonuses. ;)

About 1/5 of the image is the actual map. For something that hardly has a legend, that is very excessive.

As you can see below, the size of the map is not the issue - the gameplay is what counts ;) Do also check Doodle Earth ( a VERY popular map!) and you will see it does not have more territories than this draft. The fact that this map is more compact due to the nature of the island should not make a difference.

Yes, because of the shape of the island, the size of the map is dictated. The hurdle to overcome, is being able to utilize the rest of the area.
peon, your 1/5 estimate is way off mister. 1/3 is closer to being correct.
