EDIT: originally named the "Return of the Periodic Table Map"

Hello everyone!

Im back, and i have enough free time to work on my periodic table map again.

The old thread died, so im starting a new one.

I have taken some of the requests that were in the other thread to improve this map, but its still a work in progress.

 Things im planning to do:
Put some kind of chemistry equiptment in the background.
Fill in the White box (the part that tells what the scores are)
Add borders and impassable parts to the map.
Take suggestions and fix problems on the map.

Here it is! the white box will be where i put all the scores for each continent.

As always, suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please post and say what can be done to improve the map.
If you dont like it, please post and say WHY you dont like it, so i can work towards having the best map possible.

:D

EDIT: i forgot to mention that sfhbballnut will be working on this with me.
he is doing the technical, playability stuff with the map.

my to do list wrote:1. Get background images in
2. Shrink CCium and Riskium
3 Thicken borders around continents
4. add chart w/ bonuses
5. Not get sidetracked by other stuff like last time
6. Get rid of light blue continent where the UUn. continents should go
7. add "made by sfhbballnut and wcaclimbing" in the bottom corner
8. Change CCium to CC119 and riskium to Rk120

continue it, but in the map that you drew the continent outlines should be thicker, so I can see them easier, and have a bonus chart. I like the idea of a Periodic Table of Elements, MAp, so please, continue it.

ALso, I think CCium and Riskium shouldn't be a part of the map because it's they are not actuall elements.

Some highlights of the old thread so we don't repeat ourselves:

Transition metals massive no mans land wide open, no boundaries

Three/ four large masses around the transition metals with similar bonuses
-or-
varying bonuses with different difficulties to hold

I'll add other themes as time goes on

I will make the borders a bit thicker, but i dont think this is necessary because each continent has its own color.

For the transition metals, Each column will probably have a 1army bonus, which is why all the green ones are slightly different colors.
every other continent is all of the area that is one color.

The big white square is where the bonuses will be listed.

We discussed CCium and Riskium in our other thread, and we decided that they should stay. This is becuase we wanted to eliminate all of the neutral territories left over after the countries were divided up between players.
with a 118 element map (which is what all the normal elements would be) there would be some neutral territories in every game, no matter how many people you had playing (this is based on games with 3-8 people)
with a 120 element map (which is what it is with CCium and Riskium) there are NO neutral territories for games with 2,3,4,5,6,and 8 players.

we havent added in borders and divisions for each area yet.
the board will be divided up a lot, with small areas that are relatively easy to control.
the borders will be placed to increase the strategic part of the game. There will be many options on where to attack and move, and hopefully this will cut down on the luck factor and focus more on actual strategy and diplomacy.

The borders will be arranged by how reactive the elements are. There will be very few borders on the left side of the map (becuase those elements are very reactive) and there will be a lot of borders on the right side of the map (because the elements on the left are generally not very reactive)

thanks.

if any of you are interested, below is a link to the original periodic table thread. I hope that thread gives everyone a better idea of what this map will be like Please dont post there, becuase we probably will not read what you write there.
Post in this thread instead.

It could use some boarders within the table. looks like it is playable besides that.

Add this to your to-do list.
  • Scrap this idea and think of something better

I don't care when you get around to it, as long as it gets done.
Good work.

Interesting.

I drew up a periodic table map near the end of this past semester, which I meant to playtest with people but never got around to. I hadn't yet figured out territory troups and holding bonuses, so it was never finished.

I was originally going to post a long and fully detailed description of it here, but as you already have a nearly-finished idea, and mine seems significantly different, I think I'll put that in another thread.
