you can make it a little more misshapen and say it's the map of Terra Firma in 10,000,000 years or whatever.
what's the piece to the left of north africa but to the right of egypt?
maybe change all the names of all the countries to something more barbaric sounding, but keeping hints of what they used to be called, as you've done here?

Something to consider...what if things were flip flopped, compared to the classic? I.E. Australia doesn't have 1 border, but say 3...has more countries, bigger bonus... etc.
Minor thing to consider...an interesting skew.

First of all, your graphics abilities are incredibly good. Especially for a first draft of a map! I'd love to have you putting time and effort into cartography on this site, because frankly many other maps aren't made because the cartographer lacks the vision/ability to create it well.
I think the title needs a change- you can be much more creative than 'alternative world map'. At the very least, get rid of the word 'map' from the title.
I believe that extra piece in Africa is supposed to be a part of Egypt? If so I would physically connect it. We have seen the magnitude of problems such a situation can cause in the brunei-sumatra link of world 2.0. In fact, I would make every piece of land a country, and not have large blank islands like you have now. Some very small islands are fine but some of the ones you've included are country-sized. And no connections should be made to the unnamed islands (as you have done in Southern Africa) because its confusing.
Excellent work thus far in terms of graphics as I said. The playability will undoubtedly need to be tweaked, but you have some impressive skills.

^^ I agree with this. The graphics are awesome. However, we could change the playability a bit, so it wouldnt be so alike to classic map. Ok, as you changed the continents position, the expansion has new characteristics, but would be good still change a bit.
And about names, why East Africa, not East Afroki? Central America, not Central Ameroki? Etc, etc...

I can't explain the entire reasoning, but he renamed all the continents and kept all the countries names identical to the classic ones.

I seem to lack this ability in a way, especially when you have paint, but user opinions will make it better.
It's a good map but the bonuses should be changed to the Classic bonuses or the continents should be changed to be harder to keep or get.
You really do have good graphic abilities, how do you do it?

The continents connections have changed, that is why I changed the game bonus. If you think you have better numbers for the bonus, please tell me.
sully800 wrote:I believe that extra piece in Africa is supposed to be a part of Egypt?
Yes, I have changed that on ver 0.02

If you know a better way, please tell me. I have spent lot of time thinking on playability and if you know a better way, please tell me.

My first ideia was to have all the same countries names, and different continent names, diffrent continent bonus, and different continent connections. Is that a problem?

The main thing, that people seem to like, is consistency. IF you name change one area 'Afroki', it only makes sense to label things inside that area with that name.

dafranca: When you create a new image can you please post that image the the changes as a new post (instead of just editing your first post)? That way people can see the image going along with the latest discussion without having to flip back and forth between the current posts and the new image. Also, if you keep editing your first post we will lose the list of changes that you have made which makes it more difficult for people to follow the progression of the map, especially if they aren't following this thread from the very start.
Your updated territories look very good though. I'm glad to see you got rid of the extraneous territories. I will comment more on playability later, but guys like marv are the true experts in that category.

As a note, I really like the font you used for the Continent names, would it be possible to use that for Country names as well?

DublinDoogey wrote:As a note, I really like the font you used for the Continent names, would it be possible to use that for Country names as well?
Unfortunantely that font is too wide, for use to countries names. It will not fit, unless I make it smaller, what will make difficult to read.
I don't think people noted, but I used granite names for the coutries. I used South American granites name for Amerpolu countries, I used African granites names for Afroki countries...
That is why I called Rockearth. What you think about calling it Granitearth instead of Rockearth? or maybe Stonearth?

I was just about to ask what inspired the country names...as I had no idea. It is an interesting idea, though I don't know how many are going to catch on...with what you did. Perhaps toss around a few more ideas for names or name themes.
Personally, I'd prefer RockEarth over the other possibilities you stated.
Also, can you look into increasing the legend size? It's horrendously small. I know there isn't much room, but consider making it larger, or perhaps in a different spot.
Maybe even bump up the compass so the N,S,E,W is easily read.
Consider a different font for the country names. Look for something that is similar to the other text...so it flows.
