[Draft] The Fortress

Last night, I had an idea for making a map about a Medieval fortress and its surroundings. The fortress would be kind of centered, have some secret passages (one-way attacking) and only 2 borders to get attacked: via the siege site bordering the gate, and from a dock you could float down the river and invade via the well inside the fortress. I don't know yet if there should be a bonus added to the fortress since it has already advantages bordering almost all 5 other 'continents'.

I would like to try to develop this idea maybe in a low-bird-eye perspective as the small map and a 'blue print' (i dont know if thats the right term) as large map.

I believe such map would give slightly more 'into the battlefield'-experience. I'd opt for clean layout so you dont get lost in the different design planning your tactical moves.

Ill try to put up a draft as soon as I got some thoughts of you guys. I never made a map before, but I have quite some experience with Photoshop and do understand the current implementable features in the map XML.

I already did some quick colouring for an easier interpretion.

There would be 6 continents, 31 countries.

Color-(Continent)-[#Countries]
Blue-(Village)-[7]
Red-(Training fields)-[6]
Yellow-(Farming)-[5]
Green-(Woods)-[4]
Mud-(Swamps)-[4]
Grey-(Castle)-[3]
White-(Siege)-[5]*
Sum: 7 Continents; 7+6+5+4+4+3+2=31 Countries

*White will consist of 2 white, 1 red and 2 blue countries. So when someone holds white, no-one else can hold red or blue and vice versa. You cannot see that idea on the map yet...

Anyway, this looks like a great idea. We'll have to see how it develops :).

Yes you can, that is not very clear on this map, but on the blueprints you can easily see. I also see I forgot a bridge from blue to green...

I will work this idea out furthermore, but I dunno if I will make quick progress these times, since I have to study for my exams. Thanks for the positive comments on the idea, I hope it will turn into something good.

Ill put changes in the topic title.

make the castle worth something otherwise no one will have a desire to hold it if they will just constantly be attacked there and recieve nothing for it

Realistically its going to be impossible to hold white... everyone will be against you, so I think this might warrent a higher bonsu than 5.

interesting, very well done map. Try adding some more territories, liek making the waterfall one territory, making certain sections of the reiver a territory. Its a very small map as is.

We've seen a few of these low angle 3D maps now and I like them all (San fran bay area, king of the hill, and now fortress). This looks really good but I think you need to add some more countries, and clarify you goal for the white region.

Im not sure yet of givin the castle a small bonus, cos it already has great tactical advantage because of its geography (bordering all continents except for the swamps + one way attackings from the walls to the surrounding territories + only 2 attackable borders: i.e. the gate and the central agora)
So it would be worth holding preventing others from getting units...

The numbers next to the conintents is the current amount of countries each one has, but I agree that it deserves a high bonus.

@cowshrptrn Adding some countries is not very hard, drawing some lines etc., I can easily add some if ppl would like so.

BUT: Im postponing this project as I'm having exams...

More of a creative idea, the part of the cliff that comes down kinda into the center of the map, you could make that look like a dragon head, kind of adding to the theme of the map.

Is this map still in the making? I liked the original concept and would like to see it finished.

I realy like this map. you are going to need to give the castle a small value and keep some of the passigways out if you whant to make a more fair advantage. but don't get rid of all of the passigways. over all I like this and would like to see it be made
