This is a map I've been thinking about and working on for a bit... I have a bery rough draft (below), but I honestly have no idea what to do next. I was hoping one or a few of you could give me some feedback.
Anyway, here's the current map:

The Image has 26 territories (the clefs are terrtories)
I still need to add a title.

Copyright...
We already have to worry about Hasbro breathing on our necks... do we really want to worry about big record labels as well?

Yeah, copyright is the first thing that springs to mind on this one. Closely following it would be that the map is waaay too big.
But I'm not entirely sure how copyrighted these things are. I mean, are you allowed to list a song title and artist without breaking copyright law? Isn't it the song that is copyrighted and not necessarily the title?
Rockandrull, if you're serious about continuing something along these lines, I'd suggest looking into the copyright laws and finding out what can and can't be done.

Well the album covers themselves are surely copyrighted.

I've been thinking about the copyright problem.
The album covers definately have to go.
Artists names aren't copyrighted, and song titles are alright to.
I'll try and fix the map for next week.

Well, try to get some variation to the gameplay as well... symmetric maps tend to make for boring games...

Yeah, symmetrical maps don't tend to have a lot of favor amongst the foundry, though there are some great symmetrical maps out there like 8 Thoughts.

it's 840 pixels wide and 800 pixels tall. Go to your graphics software and set the image size to this.

I made the initial thing on paint, but I edited it with Picasa 3.
Is there any software you recommend?

I use paint.net, most people use photoshop or gimp.

The foundry could do without that kind of attitude... Who are you to shoot down someone's map idea?
For the record, CC could use a music themed map. Why not? I've seen stupider ideas gather support in the melting pot...
Granted, the idea will require more development. Also you're going to need some other software than MS paint. GIMP and Paint.net are both free graphics softwares that can be loaded from the internet, and both can be used for mapmaking. Don't worry if you don't know much about graphics, if you keep at it with perseverance and commitment, you will learn all that you need during the process of making your map.
I recommend working on your visual presentation a bit more, and thinking about the gameplay... Take a look at existing maps for inspiration. Play some of your favorite maps and think what gameplay features make them enjoyable, and try to figure out how to implement such features in your own gameplay.

I was thinking about the intial teritories a little bit, and I've been playing a game on the Jamaica map, so here's what I cam up with:
2 Player Game
- Player X: "Sweet Child O' Mine", "Satisfaction" and two of the four initial 45's*
- Player Y: "Like A Rolling Stone", "Johnny B. Goode" and two of the four initial 45's
3 Player Game
- Player X: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
- Player Y: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
- Player Z: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
4 Player Game
-Player W: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
-Player X: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
-Player Y: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
-Player Z: One of the 33's and one of the four initial 45's
5 Player Game
-Player V: "Like a Rolling Stone"
-Player W: "Satisfaction"
-Player X: "Johnny B. Goode"
-Player Y: "Sweet Child O' Mine"
-Player Z: One of the four initial 45's
6 Player Game
-Player V: "Like a Rolling Stone"
-Player W: "Satisfaction"
-Player X: "Johnny B. Goode"
-Player Y: "Sweet Child O' Mine"
-Player Z: One of the four initial 45's
-Player U: One of the four initial 45's
7 Player Game
-Player V: "Like a Rolling Stone"
-Player W: "Satisfaction"
-Player X: "Johnny B. Goode"
-Player Y: "Sweet Child O' Mine"
-Player Z: One of the four initial 45's
-Player U: One of the four initial 45's
-Player T: One of the four initial 45's
8 Player Game
-Player V: "Like a Rolling Stone"
-Player W: "Satisfaction"
-Player X: "Johnny B. Goode"
-Player Y: "Sweet Child O' Mine"
-Player Z: "Get Up, Stand Up"
-Player U: "Stairway to Heaven"
-Player T: "Born to Run"
-Player S: "Proud Mary"
*Initial 45's:
- "Get Up, Stand Up"
- "Stairway to Heaven"
- "Born To Run"
- "Proud Mary"
All other territories would be given 3 neutrals.

Well, there's no way to define different starting positions based on the number of players. You can define any amount of starting positions, but the same ones will be used regardless of the number of players... So if you use 8 starting positions, everyone will get 2 in a 4 player game.

In that case, the 8 starting positions would be the ones mentioned above.

Here's the latest version:

I've swaped the locations of My Generation and Proud mary so no two starting points are adjacent.

Ok here's one problem... your map only has 20 territories. If you're going to put in 8 starting positions, that leaves only 12 territories for players to fight for. And think about how close that makes all the starting positions. First round eliminations will be common...
I think if you want to pursue the "conquest" style of gameplay (where each player starts with 1 territory and rest of the map starts neutral) you are going to need a lot more territories. I'd say double what you have now...

I have tried editing the image on gimp, but both times after saving it I got a blue rectangle and I got screwed out of all of my work!
Also, how do you add backgrounds using gimp?
