hi, my first time creating a map, so here goes:
i don't want to get too far into this before i discover nobody likes it, so its just the territories and continents for now. i intend to drop impassable objects and bridges on, just wondering how people feel about the borders etc....too many to defend?

I'd love to see a map of London - I think it's a perfect shape for a CC battle field. That said...
As it's a map of a city, rather than a region, I'd like to see that reflected in the graphics. Ideally I'd want to see something along the lines of johloh's San Francisco map, an aerial or satelite photo that actually featured some prominant landmarks. Otherwise it's just a map with a lot of colored regions, which could be anything.

I think a map of London is a good idea but you must greatly improve your initial draft. Good luck.

Gameplay. lots of tactical options really turn me on.
61% [ 36 ]
Theme. no theme no fun.
8% [ 5 ]
Realism. i like it based on facts not fantasies.
13% [ 8 ]
Number of territories. i want more. i feed on territories.
0% [ 0 ]
Total Votes : 59
I'd like to see good game play and graphics in your map. I encourage you to make a start and take it from there.....Good luck.

I think a map of London would be good. I agree with oaktown, you're going to need to come up with something special so it actually represents London and its landmarks or it's just going to look like any other board.

I like the idea. I just don't like the divisions as of right now. Just too many borders, not very playable. As Oaktown said, if you re-think it in terms of landmarks and familiar areas, it might be a good start, If you have a map of a city, using boundaries alone doesn't really do a smaller area like a city justice. You have to associate it with landmarks and things that would be recognizable to people who aren't familiar with the region.

I really like this idea, probably just because I spend a lot of time in London but I do think the shape lends itself nicely to a map.

I like the shape of the map. it has alot of contrys(around 60) but the over all feel is nice. cleen it up, maby do some sort of back drop as oak town said ,work on the graphics, and work on the playability, and you have yourself a great map. I do love the idea I think that this one has promise

For some reason I thought london was a person, then I clicked the topic and remembered what forum I was in...
Anyway, I'm disapointed to see a map picture instead of a lady picture so no.

if you don't read the map name you don't even know what the heck is that multicoloured blob. do something about the graphics, insert some land marks and give bonuses for holding them, put the london bridge over thames as that makes a very long impassble border. you've got a lot to do but nothing's impossible.

like i said, i don't want to waste my time doing all that unless i get some kind of feedback on the borders. i know it needs the rest doing, i'm not a complete idiot. i wanted to know if people cared for the subject matter and the fact that there are many territories that share many borders.
oh, and the thames has more than one bridge, traffic would be VERY congested if there were just a "london bridge" across the river.

Just an idea, you could put in a few of the major train stations that would link together in a similar way that the harbours work in the phillipines.
I'm not sure how the geography of the main stations is set out to lend itself to the idea but the 5 that sprintg to mind to use would be Waterloo, Kings Cross, Paddington, Marylebone and Euston.
You could find stations to use that are better located if you like the idea I'm sure. Just seems a good way to add another dimension and add landmarks at the same time.
You should probably get +1 for holding the country with parliament in as well.
I was also wondering if you were going to put tunnels in as well as bridges?
Fee free to ignore all of this, it's not that important at this stage, I just quite want to play a London map now you've put the idea out there so I'm thinking about it a lot.

i think the feedback suggests you should continue... borders and river crossings can be tweaked as the map progresses. I suspect people want to see what you can pull out of your bag of tricks in terms of graphics that will do justice to such a great city.
Also, conisder the era you want to represent. I assume you want to go present day based on the size of the map, but you could consider a historic map of London - this would give you some direction in terms of thematic graphics, but could also be limiting.

if it all gets too simple & easy to understand, we could combine your map with my tube map... 132 territories on two levels!

ok, after listening to ideas and suggestions, i come to you with this: again, not finished, so please take that into account. the finished version will look a lot cleaner, and include fancy bits.
the black lines are railway tracks: impassable.
the green areas, - parks: impassable.
the river thames may only be crossed at the bridges.
oxford street may only be passed at oxford circus. (i have placed a little "bridge" at this point).
bonus for each of the red zones, they include buckingham palace, houses of parliament and trafalgar square. i plan to add the london eye, tower of london, plus any other suggestions.
railway stations (in black) bonus for owning them all. there are currently 6, but maybe this is too many.

first of all before you start using that background image see if it has any copyright issues.
second try to clean the text form it
at the moment it's clear it has some text from the original map but it's so unclear and it's really disturbing.

clearing up or not first see about the copyright problem. i don't think you want to spend numerous hours developing this map and in the end start from scratch because the background image has copyright issues
instead of giving bonus for owning the rail stations i think it's better if you make them connect to eachother.
some continents have too many borders
green has 4/5 yellow has 5/6 purple has 3/4
maybe demolishing some bridges would solve this.

i think definately check the copywrite but also now after your first two goes you must actually stat to clear it up rather than just promise you plan to do it.

ok, first of all, the map behind is for my purposes, so that i can see what i'm doing is in the right place. so in the final result, it won't even be there.
second of all, the 'promises' i'm making are based on the plan to not waste my time creating a map then to have to change it at the end. i don't want to spend hours making somethign that is going to all be either undone, or thrown away because people won't like it.
