only thing I see, would be like a 3 person sudden death 1 round limit.
otherwise, takes MASSIVE amounts of editing.

I think its a great idea. There are plenty of natural boundries, lots of space and lots of villages to give "countries" names. If no one else wants to, i can give it a whirl. Just tell me what you would want for the map, do you wan it huge, small, or average? Hard to hold areas, easy or average? Give me a rough idea of what you want and i can see what i can do...

Recently there has been an influx of small and large maps, so perhaps a nice medium sized one? And as you said there are a lot of natural boundaries that can be played with. Looking at the images above I see a lot of potential. But then again nearly every idea looks good from an early stand point.

so someting along the lines of the 42-6 configuration? Obviously, i dont want to regurgitate the classic map in the shape of alaska. What do you all think of ways we can spice it up? One way passes through the moutains? Extra army bonuses for holding an area with gold or oil?
....i dunno...help...

I'm not sure about adding bonus armies for certain areas as the idea that was thrown out. Many one way passes could make an interesting map, as long as it was not a "Hokey Pokey" map. I suggest though finding something that can truly make your map stand out among the rest, so it doesn't become 'just another map'.

Maybe you could make several areas of gold or oil(or both) around the map, and a player would get a bonus for holding all of them..

And The far east part of Russia could be added.

Just to throw this out there, if you go that route, perhaps instead of having a standard political map, how about an 'Alaskan Resource' Map. Forests (national parks perhaps) could be another area besides oil and gold, Fishing, coal....tourism? Who knows. It'd surely be a different direction a map has ever taken.
Edit:

Kind of defeats the purpose of an Alaskan map,

<sarcasm>Man, cant wait we have all usa states maps...<\sarcasm>
Seriously, with several good countries to put in a map, why a map of this? Some guys have creative ideas, and do different things, others use some good regions and real countries, others... well, I believe I will do a map of my borough.
I know, you can say "if you dislike dont play it", but really are there nothing with more appeal than, heh, Alaska? How about a map of India, Indonesia, China, Scandinavia, Mexico, Argentina, Western Europe, Pacific Islands, USSR, Italy, etc? I wont even talk about South America, its in my plans already... Whats the next? A Rhode Island map?

To me, Alaska has more appeal than India, Indonesia, Scandinavia, Mexico, Argentina, the Pacific Islands, or Italy, and about equal appeal to China or the USSR. I'm not sure how to compare it to Western Europe, since that's not really an individual country anyway.

So, one of these can be true:
1) You live in Alaska.
2) You are American.
3) You are crazy.
Probably the 3rd... (only joking)
