It's a cool concept, but WAY too one-dimensional, if you know what I mean.

You could get bonuses for cords and make it so all the notes of the same pitch can attack each other to open it up. Like all the C's can attack each other and all the B flats and so forth.

EDIT: I just read more and your current concept isn't a large enough piano for that and you took out the black keys. So nevermind.

The countries will be named by note. (example: "Green D" or "Red B")

For the people out there that have never played Piano before, how will you explain to them which note name goes with which key? Because if i was supposed to find the D key in the green section and i had never seen a piano before, it would basically be a wild guess as to which key matches each name.

I reccoment putting the letter of the key on each key. Then people that dont do music could understand it.

make the keyboard straight across the screen. right now its kinda crooked.

I like the idea. only 2 borders for every continent except the end ones would be very fun to play. You would start in one spot and expand to the left and right. I think it would be very fun to play. sort of like a 1Dimentional version of risk (the normal game is 2D)

woah! your making it too confusing. if there are people out there that have never played piano and cant name the keys, how will they know what a chord is?

rather failed concept anyway, its a straight line, not much for gameplay

Where's the strategy? Seems to me that since it's all just one line it would make the game nearly all luck. :?

It's way too linear right now. The black keys should definitely be a part of the game, although I'm not sure if that would save the map.

I have an opinion on this

If you had maybe an organ with its set of double keys it might work out. Just a row of keys has nowhere to go but two or three rows(do pianos come with three rows of keys)you might have something to work with. Also how would you know which keys were what if you don't play piano? I personally wouldn't have a clue.

Yea, im going to add the letters in so that people will know which is which.

No, i really dont know what you mean.

Ill add the black keys, but im not sure about their bonus. Should i make them part of the color that they are next to? Or should i not give any bonus for black keys, and use them only as a way to get around the map? I personally think that they should not give a bonus.

Even with the black keys, that can be confusing for people who do not play the piano. It would require a very large key with a lot of reading.

Well all of the maps have luck included! This map doesnt have that much more luck than some of the other maps (your starting position is going to affect how you play, no matter what the map is). The game has continents, so the players are going to try to go for the continents, making strategy.

Draft 2

Image

I do not want to do go any further until i know that it will be somewhat accepted. Please give me some feedback!

 Has 61 territories. (perfect for all games because Middle C starts neutral)
 5 continents
 Keys attack next to eachother.
 Added a key
 Put in country names
 fixed the colors a little bit
 Darkened the Non Playable area

It could be better but i LOVE it

I like the new look but, I still say there needs to be a second set of keys so you don't have two armies just sorta running at each other. If you don't know what I mean go take a look at an organ in a church somewhere. I'm sure you'll get better comments and support on your map. I hope this helps and doesn't discourage you. 8)

I meant literally. It's a straight line. No room for strategy at all. Just attack left and right. A cool concept, but it's not playable as is. I agree with the earlier suggestions: maybe make it an organ with multiple rows.

That just gave me a cool idea. Maybe make the seat and pedals conquerable as well. And maybe when you hold a certain pedal cool things happen. I'm not sure what, but maybe if you owned the sustain pedal it would...sustain your army? I really haven't thought it through.

That is a good idea!!!

I still think you need to open up as a single line isn't going to play well with most people.

Just have some arrows connecting keys like so:
Code: Select all
F  G  A  B  M  D  E  F  G  A  B  C  D
^           C           2           ^
|           ^           ^           |
------------|------------           |
            |                       |
            -------------------------

Or some other more brilliant idea to allow more then just neighbor attacks.

That would be cool. Would it just be random key-hopping, or would you be doing something like running up and down the arms of a piano player to reach that key? (That would be weird, yet cool).

@ Solus: I know you just said that. I was clarifying what I had said earlier.

Point taken. Just coming up with ways to make it less linear.

this map sucks. sorry to be so harsh but it does. it's so linear it sucks.
also the graphics kinda suck. not the quality but the layout. you have such a huge space that's unused.
HOWEVER the map could work if you add a little something to the gameplay and djust the graphics.

graphics:

adjust the angle of the piano so you have a close-up of the keys and much less of the surrounding stuff. so basically you need the keys and the paper with the notes. as it is now the keys are so small you can't even fit army numbers.

gameplay:

here's what i think you should do. on the paper with the bonuses write musical notes from a famos song. then group those notes into continents. each group of keys can have drawn connectios on that paper.
this way you have more diverse continents and connections between them without resorting to random connectors unrealistically places on the map.

also you can make the conectors like scribble on the paper, like the composer is just making the song and he's doing adjustments

I dont really know what you mean by that. Also, most famous songs that are real songs are hard to read, they're not like one note at a time.

I made these updates before DiM replied, so i did not add what he said.

Added a few attack lines.

you'll have to have more for this to tand a chance, its still pretty much a line

How about notes can attack eachother?

Like A sharp can attack other A sharps...
