Sydney 2000

NB: All Olympic logos and symbols are copyrighted and will not be used for this map.

And the WINNER IS....Syd-eney!!!

Current Version below...V10 Update

Concept
This map is born out of simple need to create. A need to create a map that uses the Oympics and the City that I spent 18 years in with many wonderful memories...including attending the dress rehearsal for the opening ceremony...feeling the city come alive with excitment, movement and bravado....that was only 7 years ago.

Having just developed the concept for the RAILWAYS, time to move to the roads as the freeway between territories.

As other cities and citizens know, creating an Olympics involves a massive army of volunteers, goods and services, and spectators.
IN Sydney, the roads moved everything around and were the main links between all the venues.

Venues
This map uses the Eastern Venues from the Games. It is impossible to place the venues at Olympic Park on this map, so I leave it up to the imagation of players. Perhaps that can be another mpa for the future.

Continent: initially 9, now 10.
Territories: initially 66, now 60.

Colours
Colours from the Colour blind chart have been used in this map. Sydney was known as the Green Games for Environmental Issues. So i started with all green territories, but this became too close to differentiate. So territories now are evolving.

Flags & Icons
I wanted to create some Olympics, but discvoered that copyright has everything Olympics covered, and that is (i'm sorry) too much effort for this timeframe of development.
So I improvised with several flags in miniature, and my own icons for the sports at the venues.

Gameplay
Gameplay will involve simple region encounters, plus movement between the iconised territories for goods, services and spectators via the roads, as noted on the legend.

Thanks for your comment qwert. :)
Let's say they are a representation of the 199 countries plus united South and Noth Korea plus 4 independant athletes who partipcated, not the mention the Paralympics. I think the map would be overcome if all 199 flags were used.

First of all, how do the roads work? I think I get the idea, but the map isn't specific.

WOW. Another map. Why can't you come up with ideas any faster. You are truly out of your mind. :D

Keep up the good work.

1) Is this the small map?
2) Army circles do need to be toned down

Hi WM....I am working on the 2nd version of adjustments to this map right now. This is the small map, and i'm toning down the army circles as i write this. Also just re-working the terts, regions and concept notes.
I've got plenty of other ideas which i'll PM you about.

I guess I just think this is pushing the vertical limit of the small maps size.

V2 Update

The map is on the move.

Continents have grown to 10.
Territories have reduced to 60.
Different colours and territoires for each region means different perimeters.
Bonuses have changed, but are not yet finished.
Gameplay is still evolving.
Colours have changed in request to differentiate between all the inital greens.
Some storyline is developing and making it clearer the connection betweem the goods and services, how the general populous move as opposed to how the army that delivers the Olympics moves.

Thanks for your comment magneticgoop.
Because the Olympics is very much copyrighted, a very loose development of this gameplay is possible around that theme using this streets of sydney map. I'm sure you might enjoy later when it is up for play. :)

thegeneralpublic...the roads move the goods and services and spectators between the venues and their source. please refer to V2 for an update on this issue...i'm afraid I had incorrect terminology in the destructions. 8)

In the...destructions? o-O Sounds more violent than it needs to be. :P
Anyway, I think I get it now. One thing to fix, the bridges would be much cooler if they didn't stop one one side of the road; open ends or a border in the middle would look much better.
