Brazil Revamp
Original Cartographer: Marvaddin
Revamp Cartographer: The Fuzzy Pengui & Lone.Prophet
Restrictions: Marvaddin has the right veto any suggestions or changes to gameplay or graphics

New Map! Older Versions available upon request.

There are three issues we are already aware of, and will fix once this version meets approval.

1) The Gradient and Bonus Armies are not in the Legend.

2) The Territory Names are not completed for the whole map.

3) The Impassabe Borders still have a lot of work to be done to them.

Image

This update has the following:
1) Changed territory background colors
2) The Ocean is lightened to go with the rest of the map
3) Borders in the North West were given a different look (and the whole map with change to those if it seems it suits the map better

Still to come:
1) Blending between the Flag and the ocean so they seem to be one and the same
2) Change of compass, since this one doesn't fit the map
3) Legend change...experiment with the style now, and possibly a "mini map" legend
4) Change of font for the territory names

Not Bad

Backgound should be toned down a bit it is a little to Dark in some areas.... OR make the actual map Brighter with a bit more contrast in the Continent Lines and Impassable Borders

I would Sharpen up the edges... Make it look like Parchment

You made a mistake, insted that map been in first plan, you put that you background been in first plan.

Just giving this map the official stamp of approval.

I agree with Keredrex on the background. It seems a little overpowering at the moment. The first thing I noticed though was the size of the actual map in the space you have allowed. You have a lot of wasted space at the top and bottom you could be using to make the map bigger.

Also territory font sizes should be consistent throughout.

I am not so sure about that. I have been working with Marvaddin for about 1-2 months trying to get a map we both liked. We finally agreed to just try to find a style that seemed to fit starting out, and that if the community liked the overall style then we would continue. This is just a fairly rough sketch and I have a lot of work to do. The map is definately the number one priority, but we wanted to see if the overall style or feel would be acceptable. I feel that to have a good map you must first start off with a rough draft of the whole image (map and background) to get a feel of what is to come, or what the mapmaker is planning on doing. That way, if it's a crappy theme/style I will quickly be told, and vice versa.

With that said, looking at what I have for the map itself...I will be darkening the borders, possibly darkening the country fills, changing the font (the current one doesn't allow for various accents needed), and probably repositioning it on the background to allow the image as a whole to be smaller.

EDIT I didn't see Keyogi's message the first time I was typing this. I will make the font size consistant, and as I have already mentioned I will be repositioning the map to scale the size down. As for the background, since it's been mentioned by both Keredrex and Keyogi, I will tone it down to make it stand out less. As it is, it seems as though for a parchment style I am trying for it is a little dark and a little green. I will be making it lighter, and making it more of a tan/yellow.

i don't think it looks much better then the one thats on the site now. you should just get a new map and base it off of the one thats on the site now.

the new one i think should inhold : sea routes , new moutins , The graffics/eye-candy needs totally re-done , add-in the Amazon & Parana Rivers, add-in the captial(Brasilia) and Makeing the map bigger.

Unfortunately one of the restrictions I have been given by Marv was to leave all the borders/gameplay exactly the same. So all that I am able to do for the revamp is just enhance it visually. Maybe if the borders stay the same, I will try to add mountains/rivers and put bridges or something so that all the attacks are left the same. If more people feel this is needed/would make it nicer.

dont listen to unit_2. This is already better than the current map. Impliment the suggestions already made, finish adding the terr names, add army circles, add the legends and the map will feel fuller and give a better chance for good feedback.

I will be glad to do this, especiallly since my laptop came back from repair today! Once I reformat I will be putting CS2 back on my computer and should have it finished by Monday (I hope). Thank you for the support and ideas thus far! :D

I am in agreement with all the positive comments! I love the feel of this map. It looks like an old parchment map or something.

Fuzzy and I actually work together and had tried some other ideas, but this one is by far the best. He rocks! ;-)

My Suggestions:
-Can we get a mild (VERY mild) texture on the territories? I am not sure it would work but it might.
-I agree that a little more depth of hue/color in the territories would make them stand out, as well as toning down the dark dark parts of the map folds. Not a ton, but slightly.
-Can we add a cool looking compass graphic in the bottom right hand corner? Something old fashioned maybe.....
-I agree that trimming down the top/bottom margin, or enlarging the map, would be nice.
-My last, and most important suggestion, is that you give me $500 :-)

I know I rock, but it's nice to be reminded

Jackal_174 wrote:Can we get a mild (VERY mild) texture on the territories? I am not sure it would work but it might.
I believe textures may help, I ill maybe first try to emboss or engrave the different bonus' and then adding some type of texture to the individual countries

Jackal_174 wrote:-I agree that a little more depth of hue/color in the territories would make them stand out, as well as toning down the dark dark parts of the map folds. Not a ton, but slightly.
I will definately do this as it has been suggested multiple times

Jackal_174 wrote:-Can we add a cool looking compass graphic in the bottom right hand corner? Something old fashioned maybe.....
I would like to add something to make the map more lively. I think an old fashion compass may be just what the map needs.

Jackal_174 wrote:-I agree that trimming down the top/bottom margin, or enlarging the map, would be nice.
I am also going to definately trim down the map size. I think there is too much unneeded space that can be taken away.

Jackal_174 wrote:-My last, and most important suggestion, is that you give me $500
You make more than me...I should be asking you that question!

I'm not a big fan of the background, but that could just be because it is overpowering. I never actually thought the map looked terribly bad except for that I didn't like that it was a floating map(much like germany) and that hasn't been fixed so I'm not a fan of that so far. Also I very very very much dislike how the borders are drawn and the font. They don't look good in my opinion.

This is my favorite map. Make it good.

I hope to make it better than good...it should be great!!!
As for the font it will be changed because the accents most countries need are not available with this font.

What exactly about how the borders are drawn do you dislike? Is it how they are light and faded, or the color?

For everybody that responds, if you say you do not like something, I won't take offense to it, but I would like you to add what part of it you don't like or how you would change it. Thank you :)

They seem terribly inconsistant. they seem thicker in the middle of central axis, and in north east it seems that you are getting some of the same border thing going on as in the mountains.

Also I would like to see the mountains improve.

I see where it does look like they are thicker in Central Axis, although I am unsure as to how they turned out that way since I used the exact same brush and size for all the borders. As for the "mountains", I think you may be talking about the impassable borders. These are actually not there in real life, and are just added for gameplay. I haven't done anything with them in the draft I have presented thus far, other than drawing their borders. That is one point I meant to mention earlier. If anybody has suggestions on what to do for the impassable borders (since they aren't really there in real life) please post your ideas!

Got to go with the black circles myself, Oh, wait......Crap......I mean white. I forgot that the armies are the same color as the player.....still drunk you see. Anyway, I guess the white circles would be best for that to make it visible. The black just looks cooler. Anyway.....Yep....
