As of yet unmapped regions of the world list

So, I had the idea to list regions of the world that haven't been mapped yet, that I also think would make good maps. These are mostly regions that contain more than one country, but this list isn't exactly made scientifically. Just throwing ideas around.

Central Asia
The Horn of Africa
Maghreb / Northern Africa / Western Africa / Sahara Desert
Central America
Greenland
Northern Europe
Japan

well, depending on what sort of scale you consider we have either done everything, or next to nothing. For instance, we have an Africa map so you could say it's done; but the only maps showing a region of Africa are the Egypt maps and Madagascar, so we've got all sorts of Africa maps we could still do.

Right, of course. I don't like the title of this thread either, but I couldn't really think of a better one.

Still I think it's a nice idea... who knows, somebody may mention something that is sorely missed, like Japan.

Well, since there's an India map in the Foundry right now, I didn't list it. But yeah, I totally forgot about Japan.

there's quite a few good maps that are either active but moving slowly or inactive and either abandoned or on vacation that are basically as good as any other maps we've got going in the foundry.

Scandinavia - going a bit slow due to infrequent updates and lack of posting from others (maybe related!)

South Africa - I think there's 2 of em that both were high quality and at least one was in FF at one point.

Mexico - Fudowhatever had a great map here but he's been gone for quite some time

Central America - I think there was one called 'Caribbean Sea' which was quite good (and someone somewhat recently just took that idea and pawned (correct word here, Oaktown?) it off as their own). There's been a few in this area that were good.

We have a severe lack of South American maps. We only have South America itself, and Brazil, nothing else. Africa has the Egypts and Gazala, North America has plenty as does Europe, even Australia has 2 and 1 on its way, and Asia has an insane amount. Anyone interested in more SA maps? I know I'm going to work on one in the future, and t-o-m has expressed an interest too, but we really should have more representation down there :)

I'm continually saddened by the fact that the South Africa maps seem to die premature deaths. Having said that, I think theres plenty which haven't been made which might be awesome. Nigeria for one, Congo for another. Horn of Africa as a region would also be awesome. Japan, as has been mentioned. The SADC region could also be quite interesting.

Well, there is a reason that Japan isn't up yet and that is gameplay. It's really long, so either the guy on top wins because he has a larger bonus or the guy on the bottom wins because he has a larger bonus.

But, I feel like doing Mexico City personally! I'll see what I can do.

Also, don't forget Spain,

They did Portugal and Iberia, but not Spain.

Greenland might be a good map to make its different-ish and you dont really see anything about greenland so that proberly should be a map for the future

I might take a crack at japan, it's been tried so many times it could be quite fun :)

I think a Japan map should probably include Korea and some of China, to make it more circular.

I'm convinced that a Japan map can work, but I'm not sure the gameplay will ever be great. It's hard to bring yourself to spend months working on a map that you know will only be mildly popular, and that's coming from somebody who has already made several mildly popular maps.

City maps offer a lot of potential, in my opinion. London, LA, Paris, Mexico City, Tokyo, Rome (historical or contemporary), and many many others would make fantastic maps.

Also, it would be interesting to go back through the major wars and great empires in world history for some map ideas... where the British Empire? American Revolution? Spanish Civil War (Merker's Spain Map)? Boer Wars? Siege of Troy? The battle at Kurukshetra (and the Bhagavad Gita)? Russian Civil War & Revolution? Napoleon's march across Europe? War of the Roses?

OK, I'll stop - I don't want this to turn into another catch-all map ideas thread. #-o

This is the general area I was talking about, btw. If you include all of this area, suddenly the game play becomes much more circular. Come to think of it, it could even be expanded to the Japanese Empire (which would include a lot of Oceania as well).

The Spanish Civil War sounds like a brilliant idea for a map.

i thought turkey would be a good one. And argentina/Chile. And the three south american countries which names escape me!

Also a northern ireland map to do with the troubles, and a 1930's german empire one.
