Hurricane New Orleans

Hello mapmakers,

I am a native and resident of New Orleans, LA, USA. You may have heard of the place and its constant string of hurricane attacks. Katrina, as you probably know, nearly destroyed the city. Of course, flooding in NOLA is commonplace (although as the pumps improve, so does the flooding).

I have no coding skills, but I do have some pretty good ideas. I envision Uptown, Downtown, maybe West Bank (other side of the MS river), Metairie and some other territory options. Or it could be closer in, using the Garden District, Marigny, French Quarter, Midcity, etc.

Also, someone could use the same concept as Dustbowl except with flood zones. If you have a flood zone you lose 1 army per turn there. There could be a bonus for having all the pumping stations.

So, if anyone likes the idea enough to make the map, Im happy to answer questions about the city.

I like the idea of a New Orleans map (I always like city map ideas) but wouldn't you rather see something that celebrates the city than a reminder of the near destruction of the city? The Dustbowl map represents a piece of American history that isn't quite as immediate and may not bring up such personal and painful emotions.

Well, the fact that New Orleans floods is just part of the local mentality. Id say theres even some degree of pride there -- ever heard of a Hurricane Party? I think it would encompass the feeling of the city to show its darker side right next to its colorful one. Count on us to part the waters and find a way to the nearest bar.

Furthermore, I think it could be educational for people to see which parts of the city get most flooded (namely, the poorer areas). No education about this city is complete without knowing a bit about its drainage. I mean, the only reason its not underwater right now is because of canals and levees.

As I say, if anyone is willing to take on this project I'll help. I do have some artistic skill and knowledge of the city, and a scanner. I can draw out sections if someone commits to the graphics and coding work.

This is an absolutely awesome idea. New Orleans has so much history and well known areas that it would be fun for everyone to play. You could lose armies for areas flooding.... or even being hungover on Bourbon. Eitherway... there are tons of recognizable features of the city that would be fun to think about occupying. Plus the city is already divided really well in real life to help facilitate this.

You could own pumps, parade routes, sections of the city, ports, canals, flood zones, bridges, ferry crossings could attack across the river, french quarter, etc.

Dear god, if I could make a map, I would immediately. How do i do this?
General Anarchy. Cheers to your brilliance. Someone PLEASE take this an run with this.

NOLA SOLDJA.

You could make a couple different kind of New Orleans maps. One could be a stand risk type map. Splitting the city into Lakeview, Uptown, Algeries, etc. Here is a starting point with this map and then you could make another map dealing with the bodies of water and pumping stations.
As far as Katrina goes, I don't want to see a damn thing about it.
