If you get the permission, that would be awesome. I love XKCD.

While I love xkcd and that map (I have the poster of it about five feet from me right now), I don't think it would make a very good CC map.

I disagree, I think that could be an amazing CC map.

Another good xkcd map would be the map of the Internet: http://xkcd.com/195/

I dunno... I think there are some things that are best left alone.

Like ice cream pizza.

My opinion exactly. How will the gameplay for this work? Please don't take a masterpiece like this and try to force it to be something it's not. Making this map into a CC map is like fitting a square peg in a round hole.

wont the names for each territory be copyright?
Even though you got permission from XKCD, I think you'd still have to ask each indavidual company if you could include their name in the map.

...or maybe I am wrong, I'm not sure.

Aww... o well.
Good luck with the map. It'll be interesting to see how you work out the gameplay on this one.

hey guys i just tried to make a map out of it but im afraid i cant because i dont see places to put the circles for the number of armies (im sure there is a technical term for it)

max size you can use for the small CC map image is 630x600 so you have to fit it into that. if you can't then there's no point working on the map.

Hmm...

First off, I've never contributed to a map in any way before, so ignore my ramblings if you want. However, I've been having a think about this map, and though it seems difficult I figure it could perhaps work. Thing is, it would need to be largely redrawn, and that is potentially alot of work.

I figure that the way to do it would be to first divide it up into reasonable countries, then try to put the army circles on, rather than simply try to put the circles on straight off. In some cases smaller countries will need combining, but this is nothing new for CC maps.

After a bit of messing around, this is what I came up with. Its a mess I know, but I've tried to show where each region represents (black lines) alongside how they connect to each other (red lines). At some point I'll make a diagram that hasn't got the map behind so I can see how all the nodes fit together properly (I suspect there are currently a load of dead ends... whether this is good or bad is unknown). The basic idea behind this was to copy the Great Lakes a bit, in that the seas are largely seperate from the land, with a few connections between them.

Oh, and sorry if I'm stepping on your toes here a.sub, its just the easiest way to explain what I mean is to actually show you.

actually i think ur map is brilliant, but what i am going to do is change it so that u cant own the seas but you can cross them via trade routes.

Although I have recently started reading these comics, and am enjoying them, this one is showing its age...

alright using most of Avaris's ideas i have the following.
Image
the red circles are for oceans, after every round the reset to a neutral 3, because you can only cross them
the top right XKCD island, can attack and be attacked by everything including seas, it also gives a relatively large bonus. i have no clue on the bonus system right now.
criticisms? (c'mon u have to have something to bitch about :D )

They let u use their idea, not their map. YOu cant just draw lines and put some circles on it--you have to remake the whole thing.
