This idea has circled around a little while, and we finally set it in motion. After i decided that GFX just were NOT my thing I passed the work to samuelc812 and he has done a fantastic job in 2 short days! and well... lets let the image speak for itself

POINT OF INTEREST:
The North (West on this map as its turned sideways): Should we split it into 2 continents as its so large, or is 1 large continent good enough?

will there be copyright problems? We've had enough of that lately.

I must ask, how did Disc World squeek though?

Also, I plan on sending a message to the writer just in case asking permission, weather he actually gets back to me or not, whos to say lol, but ill make that attempt (and if in desperate measures, we can always just move some names around )

With regards to Discworld (viewtopic.php?f=64&t=870), the mapmaker had an "email exchange" with Terry Pratchett.

As far as this one goes, I'm not familiar with the stories, so cannot associate the geography with anything. The borders need a bit of work, as I have no idea what connects to where as things stand... The top-left grey bit, for example, appears to have 3 or 4 territories that are cut-off from the rest of the grey region.

I'd rather it'd appear how it does in the books (up and down)

The way you drew it obviously has the space.

I don't have any of the books right here so I'll wait to see which houses you've used to determine the continents.

I can't remember the colours of each house but I think instead of red you should be using gold/yellow for the Lannister area. They are the lions afterall.


And, lets not post any spoilers as some people are probably in the middle of reading the series or would like to read them later. (I'm in the middle of the 4th book at the moment).


Any reason you strayed away from the gameplay that Keyogi and Spockers had on their map? It seemed to be fairly good if I'm remembering it correctly.

We are going to place a compas at the top pointing North to the left, we were just afraid of running out of virtical room, sam is going to add some land to the north so its not just blank space so that will also stretch it out alittle more

Thats a very good point, Sam has never ready the books so he dosnt know any of it, I just gave him the regens on a quick map without really colors, when i PM him ill inform him of some color changes if its not too much work

i agree, im actually just finishing the 3rd book (have the 4th next to me and ready ) so yes no spoilers please

No worries, i already posted that in the new update to him, we have three areas of that map that are cut off and those will have bridges in the next update

There are 4 or 5 previous Westeros suggestions

I'd suggest picking those apart for ideas, and to see what copyright issues there are going to be...

If memory serves me correctly spockers and KEYOGI gained copyright permission back in the day. So it shouldn't be a problem getting it again for this attempt...

thanks guys and thanks MrBenn for the link, ill look through it now!

width only gives you an extra 40px on large and 30px on small. furthermore, it's like putting South America on it's side (which I did in early versions of that map (a horrible horrible horrible idea)). anyone who has read the series will notice it right away and be annoyed by it.

the only version was quite good in the amount of territories and continent separations. It might be good if you guys tried to contact Keyogi (and Spockers) to see if you can take over theirs or copy their gameplay.

Would this be a better angle to take ??

hmm. I thought there was a thumbs up smiley face. I don't like smiley faces but it wouldn't done the trick.

I don't like the water though. maybe tone it down a bit or go in a different direction.

Things I hope you've already done (if not then do 'em before you get too far along)

1. Get confirmation of the right to make the map from George RR Martin.

2. Contact Keyogi (or Spockers). Keyogi's image was pretty awesome.

I know that Keyogi was revamping the map a bit in gameplay and graphics. Maybe he had a plan laid out already that you can follow. Maybe he's done some work on a new image. I think it'd be a shame if you didn't at least try to find out what they have or had going on because they really did have quite the handle on it and I think the image above really shows how promising their work was. Not trying to diminish what you guys are doing by any means but it can't hurt to at least dig around a bit.

The water is round the wrong way, which i didn't realise, but round the right way it looks good but i will try toning it down

Right now-try to turn it upright

The greyjoy(the white islands to people who haven't read books) is a bit too small

I like the more vertical map, it's more similar to the books themselves. Also, I would suggest splitting a smaller part of the north into The Gift/The Wall so that The Starks don't have too large of an area.

what about splitting the north in half as its so large? that was a thought i had, alittle less accurate to the stories but it can be twisted to be accurate (without giving any away i hope )

Well, it all depends on timing. Is this map set pre-Aegon rule or Post Robert's Rebellion? And if post, how long after?

(I guess it could be set during the Targaryen rule, but 1 giant area would be kinda boring. )

post-roberts, and its just a general timeline nothing specific

here is the next update sam has sent me, trying to work it more like the other attempts were, though i personally like colors better then realistic looking land, what do you guys think?

ok a couple things we need discussed

1) The North, should it remain as 1 area (as seen in V2) or split in half (as seen in V3)

2) Iron Islands, what kind of attack routes will this use? its going to be a +1 bonus with multiple port directions, do we just want to connect 2 areas, or perhaps more

I think splitting the North is a bad idea. I realize most of the time the mentality "this is a game and we make changes based on what's good for gameplay" is usually a good one but on a map like this, you want to represent the map as it was done by the creator.

you've also managed to leave out many major cities/castles which I think people who've read the book are going to complain about quite a bit. I know you're calling some places based on the names of the area but you've got some which are cities. I think people are going to want to see the names of the cities there which they read about in the book.
