The islands idea is interesting, but I'd really have to a see a rough sketch to say anything on it. For the mall I would stay away from choosing an actual mall. Merely look at the floorplans of a few and pick and chose so it is a unique mall, with original stores and parody stores. Solar system, could be interesting but I don't know. Prelim sketches really just need to be hashed out.

I think a map that gives you the quickest route to the classic map is the best idea

I quite like the mall idea, as I mentioned on the other thread. I think it would give you plenty of flexibility in providing interesting and creative geography -- open plan storefronts, kiosks in the middle of the plaza, railings and fountains and walkways... and it'd be fun to have continents like "the Food Court". If you're interested in a co-designer, I'd be happy to brainstorm with you (so long as I don't need to work on the art :) ).

For the solar system map, were you thinking of a map of the solar system specifically, or one with solar systems in general? I only ask because I'm working on a space map with solar systems on it as well, so there might be some overlap. But if yours is just the local solar system, it's no problem, since it would be just like the Classic map versus Asia or Europe.

I have not spent much time on the spacey one...you go for it! I have spent the most time on the isles one but keep getting frustrated over little things and starting over / doing it different..I will have something to show soon....

Question - cant we simply paste a picture here or does it have to be a hyperlink to the picture where is is housed / hosted??

with the mall map you could have different levels and escalators to connect them.

what do you think about 2 different levels of bonuses? In this particular map it would be something like this: each department store is like a continent of departments that you can get a small bonus for, but if you own all the department stores you get an extra bonus. the initial bonus would be a little less but then the extra bonus for all department stores give a Huge bonus.

another similar idea: a store could be a part of two bonus groups/continents. A shoe store may be a part of the "East wing" [continent], but you could also get a bonus if you own all the shoe stores scatterd throughout the mall.

And what a completely lack luster and pointless post it was. Congrats.

I'd say the mall map is by far my favorite idea of the newest ones that are floating around in the cerebral clouds above. Stoney's idea about the 'double bonus' is interesting. I think it'd add several new strategies to the current compendium in RISK. And I remember someone asking Lack if it would be possible to allow a country be in "two continents", and how he said it was possible. That idea would work perfectly for the 'double bonus'.

Lots of possibilites in the works and once a few of them start to form and with the addition of prelim map layout...it will all start to unfold. Keep up the work.

wow, i think the mall idea is the first time i actually think to myself "wow, thatd be neat to try". as for the 2 story map, thats pretty cool. its kinda like risk 2210 AD where you can take over the moon, which is a different board, not attached to the map

I'll work with Jota on the map of the solar system. But originally I was thinking of making several planets and they can only attack each other if they are in alingment But if I did that It would be a lot of work. I'm mainly thinking that we include some of the moons of the giant planets nd you need to have control of one to attack the planet. also we could use some of the famous space satalites for earth. We might include some comets. We could also use some of the asteroids from the asteroid belt and Chiron. It would be a very good job to work on and it would be a very interesting job.

What do you say Jota :?:

Wow...good FB....I have "collected" several decent mall maps - I like a few of them but they all are lacking cutesy doodads / graphics...I am working on it - if anyone out there wants to help / take charge, let me know....the free time I do have I vlow ALL on playing games so I have not dedicated alot of time to this project......

Anyone know where to get a decently priced version of Adobe Photoshop? That seems to be the preferred program here....

If you don't want to pay for Photoshop, try the GIMP - it's the open source equivalent.

This is actually very different from the map that I'm working on. I think that my idea and your idea could peacefully co-exist as two entirely separate, unrelated maps.

On your map, you might consider having multiple territories on some of the planets. For example, the "Earth" continent might include countries like North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Luna. That would form a nice bridge to the Classic map.

That is what I was thinking and I was thinking of making a completely different load of maps and then making a space one at the moment I'm working on the moon.
