I have no clue how to get started, but I think a Battle Map of GETTYSBURG would be really cool and other Civil War battles as well.
Its could be built along the lines of the WATERLOO map. Just over lay the Gettysburg map but the tactics, objectives, all the same or similar to fit with the actual battle
Generals Lee and Meade HQ's.
Various artillery positions for bombardments.
Terrain areas such as Missionary Ridge, Cemetery Ridge, Little Round Top, Big Round Top. Culps Hill, Wheat Field, Devils Den, Town of Gettysburg, Peach Orchard, etc etc.
Battle Commanders: Pickett, Chamberlain, Longstreet, Buford, Jeb Stuart, Hancock, Ewell, Hood, etc etc.
Since it was a 3 day battle and units changed positions, then not sure how to set up the units, but Waterloos was not a single day battle either.

JP007, i had made a start on the Gettysburg map some time ago, but Uni got in the way.

I would not say this could be overlaid on the Waterloo tactics.
There are substantial differences if you want to fit this map into the size requirements of CC.
To start, from my understanding there was not much Cavalry at Gettysburg close to the town. As such it is outside the scale of this map i was looking at. Much of this town battle was fought by infantry with canon artillery bombarding positions.
These are two entirely different battles.
Good luck to whoever has to time to complete this.

I remember doodleing potential gettysburg maps in history class whenever the stupid people wasted time by asking stupid questions. I never really got anything great, and missed a lot of the civil war unit, but I remember that hills were really really important, and that all the conferderates came for were more shoes...
I think I can find some good maps though, if people want references.

Lots of foul ups there... Lee attacks the high ground across about a mile of open ground. The Confederates got cut to shreds during Pickett's Charge. A map like this would be essentially a battle for high ground, each side had superior defensive capabilities, but no real good offensive options. The clear play would have have been retreat and threaten other targets to get the other army off the high ground. (Lee should retreated and marched towards Philadelphia or Washington DC)

thats so true, many foul ups on both sides. Especially JEB Stuarts Calvery..he screwed up bad, which most likely is what cost Lee the battle.

Would be a cool CC Map tho. I have no idea where to begin, but why couldn't you overlay the same type of grid system as Waterloo map on a Gettysburg map.?? you could arrange the grids and bonus territs just like the Waterloo, have artillery positions on Missionary ridge and Cemetary ridge as well as culps hill and little round top. You could have the 2 calvery units, as well as the various generals and their units just like the generals of waterloo.
The problem I do see is that the battle map is more north-south oriented instead of east and west, so would be difficult to project all of it on the computer screen.
I have several good gettysburg maps, just don't know what to do next???
