A map can be played on if it's xml file is perfect.
To ensure that your xml is written properly, you can use two helpful tools: the XML Test and the Map Inspect.

The tools are available at this page: http://www.conquerclub.com/mapmaker/index.php

The first tool can be used to check the validity of the file, the second to check bonuses, connections and coordinates.

XML Test

Image

The validator is easy to use, you need just to click the browse button and select your xml file, then click the test xml.
If you xml is valid you 'll see a confirmation at the top of the page (like this)
If you scroll down the page you can see also the test results. (Note: One way borders are always highlighted in test results with a warning)

For additional info please click "What does this tool check for?" on the tool page.

Map Inspector

The map inspector allow you to "test" your map. It gives you visual and written details about connections, bonuses and placement of armies on the map.
To use it you have to copy-paste the links of your image (large or small) and your xml file. Once you have pasted your links, you need only to specify if your linked image is the big or the small version and, optionally, specify the army quantity you want displayed on the map. Now, to run your test click the "Inspect Map" button.
Alternatively, if you want to check just the placement of your troops on the map, click the "Only Test Coordinates" button.

For more detailed info on this tool, click "What does this tool do?" on the tool page.

Note: Some users have experienced some problems in using the Map Inspector with XML URLs that have embedded spaces, even if they are encoded as %20.

Hey, I was just using this tool to look at koontz's XML, and the Text Map/Map Inspect data won't come up, and it isn't showing the numbers for 888 or Random (though it works for 88 for some reason). I'll check another XML to see if it's just his or something.

Tested the California XML and it works fine... I'll PM koontz. Though I still don't understand why the coords were being weird - that shouldn't be an XML issue, should it?

No, it is a problem with the tool. There is another thread stating that an xml url with spaces in causes some problems. Set up the attachment in first post as requested.

Hey, now I know the Italian word for Browse... :D

(But why does Google Translate say it means puff pastry :?:  )

Because google translate is stupid and it doesn't know the difference between a noun and a verb. (sfoglia is the noun, sfogliare is the verb)

Btw I asked to the admins if they can fix the embedded space issue asap. ;)

To be fair, given a single word out of context, there is no way to know if it is a noun or a verb if they are spelled the same. I just wonder about the etymology that brings those two concepts together. Is browsing through a book like flipping through leaves of flaky pastry, perhaps?

That fix would be welcome.

I think thenobodies should present us with a variety of sfoglias for us to sfogliare and eat (yes, I'm ignoring conjugation - shut up!) :P

You have spaces in your xml file name?
Some users have experienced some problems in using the Map Inspector with XML URLs that have embedded spaces, even if they are encoded as %20.

Did you clicked "inspect map"? Because if you click on "only test coordinates" it doesn't show them....but instead, if you clicked the inspect map button and the symbols are not displayed...then i don't know :-k

I know there's a problem with the latest update. I've already asked support to the admins to solve the issue.
