This is a Tournament Players Association (TPA) event and is governed by its rules, guidelines, and judgments. All are welcome to join and participate in the association. You need do nothing more than join one or more of the TPA events that will be announced each Monday. Check back on the TPA scoreboard in the Tournaments--> General Info forum to see how you're doing.

Based on the CBS show The Amazing Race, this tournament will be a series of 6-player doubles games with teams being dropped at each stage.

I am needing 33 doubles teams to register to compete.
*Premium Membership is Required*

In this season, teams will race through Historical Wars. They will have to make stops at 10 different venues before making 1 final dash to the finish (3 more rounds than previous versions). The places of interest for this season will consist of

    Triple Alliance
    13 Colonies
    Waterloo
    American Civil War
    WWI Ottoman Empire
    Pearl Harbor
    WWII Gazala
    D-Day: Omaha Beach!
    WWII Australia
    WWII Europe
    Battle for Iraq!

Format:
The 33 teams will be randomly assigned to 11 different groups. These groups will play 3 games on each map.

Points will be awarded as follows:
    1st place: 5 points
    2nd place: 3 points
    3rd place: 1 point
Bonus Points are as follows:
+2 points for winning in 7 rounds or less
+1 point for the last place team IF they last 10 rounds.

At the end of all the games on the first map, the lowest 3 teams overall will be dropped from the tournament. In case of a tie, the teams who played the most rounds will advance (meaning they put up the better fight).

The advancing teams will continue on to the next map in different, randomly assigned groups. Points will reset for each map, but a running tally of points will be kept. 3 more teams will be dropped after each map based on the performance within that round. For ties, the TOTAL amount of points will be used, with the higher team(s) advancing. If that can’t break it, the team that played the most rounds within that map will advance.

This will continue until the final map, Battle For Iraq, where the first team to 2 wins will be crowned the winner, regardless of what happened in the previous rounds. If the other 2 teams both win 0 or 1 game, TPA rankings will be determined by the total score (just like previous round tiebreakers).

TPA Rankings: Teams will be ranked based on where they are eliminated, with the tiebreakers also being in effect. If a tiebreaker can’t separate the teams eliminated within that round, the teams will share that rank in the TPA standings. Therefore, the 3 teams eliminated each round will still be ranked in the overall standings, with the “last team out” getting the highest ranking in the standing for that round. The points per position will be determined by the TPA Scoring Method.

Notes:
  • All games will be Sequential, Automatic, Flat Rate, Unlimited, Sunny.
  • You have 48 hours to join each game. You will get 1 reminder before being replaced.
  • Reserves will be used only for Round 1; the last team out will replace a team in the later rounds.
  • All games need to be finished by Round 30, otherwise the teams will split the remaining points (no bonus point if all 3 teams still alive).

Round 1: Triple Alliance

Welcome to the Amazing Race: History of War. This season, 33 teams will embark on a journey that will take them through the sites and history of famous battles that shaped the course of the world into the nations we have today. Each leg of the race has its own tricks and hardships that you all will have to overcome. If you fail to overcome the challenges of the round, you may face elimination. If you succeed, you will gain much-coveted points for your Tournament Players Association ranking. Although your immediate opponents may change every leg, your overall goal is still the same: finish ahead of the others for only one team may be crowned the champions of Amazing Race: History of War.

Although not the earliest war in this tournament, The War of the Triple Alliance typified the border-battles seen throughout the world as new nations tried to spread their influences over their neighboring lands. According to the description on the CC map, “When Brazil occupied Uruguay in 1864, Paraguay was cut off from the Rio de la Plata and the sea. Paraguay responded by invading both Brazil and Argentina, who would sign the Treaty of the Triple Alliance with the new government of Uruguay in 1865. War raged on land and on the rivers for five years. Some 400,000 would die from battle or disease in South America’s bloodiest war.”

The war set in motion several changes that defined the development of all the nations involved. This Great War (as it’s called in Paraguay) devastated Paraguay, killing most of the country’s male population. The country was referred to as a republic, but only had its first democratic elections in 1933. The war led to the end of slavery in Brazil, the increase of the military’s political influence, and a mountain of debt that hampered the country’s growth. Argentina consolidated into a nation-state and it was the last time Brazil and Argentina interfered with Uruguayan government.

The opening leg for this season will take place on the War of the Triple Alliance map. Created by oaktown, this map plays as one with standard gameplay with an aged graphics appearance. The traditional army circles have been replaced by other shapes that denote the countries where each region belongs. The ship guarding the mouth of the Rio de la Plata links the capitals of each nation, while the one-way attack provides Paraguay with a direct route to Argentina without the threat of retaliation. At the end of this leg, the three lowest finishers will be eliminated. Good luck.

Round 2: 13 Colonies

The war that forever changed the course of the world occurred in the New World from 1775-1783. A band of 13 Colonies joined together to challenge the most powerful nation in the world: England. The rebels used their extensive knowledge of the terrain and even guerilla tactics to hold off and then beat back the invading English. Sparked by excessive taxation and a desire to remove a dictatorial government, the United States succeeded in their revolution. Their success changed the course of freedom and world affairs for the next 225+ years.

The CC Map was designed by Industrial Helix. The map has a distinctly linear setup but does use ships and woods to gain a quicker route to the other end of the country. The ships are owned by France and Britain, with benefits for holding each of them. Beware during your trek through the woods, as any troops you leave there will no longer be yours to command. The three lowest scoring teams in this round will be eliminated. Good luck.

Round 3: Waterloo

The Battle of Waterloo marked the downfall of a great French empire. Napoleon had reigned in France for nearly 10 years and had amassed an empire that stretched over much of Europe. After nearly a full year out of power, Napoleon returned for 3 months that concluded with the Battles of Waterloo. He decided to go on the offensive to stop the oncoming British and Prussian armies. The British armies led by the Duke of Wellington were able to hold their defensive positions in the mud and slippery field until the Prussian army arrived and broke the right flank of the French army. The French army was not able to hold the country and the allies of the Seventh Coalition forced Napoleon off the thrown and into his final exile on Saint Helena.

The Conquer Club map of Waterloo is marked by massive artillery bombardments and ranged attacks by cavalry. The bonus regions range from small areas to very large areas, with the goal being to either hold the artilleries that bombard the bonus territories or to find the small regions that cannot be bombarded. Most 1v1 games come down to who can bombard the most territories first, but a three-way team game may come down to who can actually hold the bombardment regions. This complex map is not for the faint of heart and will be the first major test for the tournament participants.
