Game 9502972 has not started. dagdam0r seems to have vanished from the site. I didn't send his second invite until yesterday, but he was apparantly gone the entire week and has been deadbeated out of other games that he's in. I'm declaring him to have been the first person eliminated from the game. Frito, JenBear, Risk, Bobby, commander, and frank all advance to round 3. Since the winning of these games is irrelevant to the tournament and only the first elimination counts, I'm not going to try restarting the game unless the remaining players really want me to.

Here are the replies I've gotten:
Risk_Averse wrote:I am fine either way

callmecommander wrote:I'm in too many games as it is, so I have no interest in replaying anything. Thanks

Marshallbobby wrote:I will wait for round 3. Thanks

frank_tank wrote:let's move to next round, no need to play out a game that means nothing (unless of course you are into bragging)!!!

So, a lukewarm "maybe" and three "certainly not" .... Game 9502972 will NOT be replayed or remade. Dagdam0r is eliminated and the others wait for Phase 3 (which should be very soon.)

There has now been an elimination in all four Phase 2 games. We say goodbye to milo67, Grandilof, RedRover23B, and spartacus 65. (plus the automatic elimination of no-show dagdam0r)

Phase 3 starts today.

Three of the five eliminations were Fog votes, so the foggy side is weakened even further. The vote is now 10 for Sunny, 7 for Foggy, and 13 with no preference.

Re: History of Nuclear War I [Phase Three Germany]

While practical work in atomic research was centred in England and France, the theoretical backbone of nuclear physics was being built in Germany. Max Planck, Walther Nernst, James Franck, Gustav Hertz, Wolfgang Pauli, Max von Laue and Erwin Shroedinger all made contributions to our theoretical understanding of the universe at the atomic level. The greatest breakthrough of all was Einsteins Special Theory of Relativity, and its inevitable result, the theory of mass-energy equivalence.
Phase 3
30 players in 5 groups will play 6-player games on the Germany map. The first player eliminated in each game is out of the tournament. The remainder will go on to the next round.

There's been an elimination in every game and we're eligible to start the next round now. Unfortunately this is a really hectic week for me, so it might be a few days before I get to at. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Okay, with heavy hearts we say goodbye to 4Red, frank_tank, JenBear, basic_man2010_20, and even DoomYoshi, who inspired me to create this tournament. :(

Two of them were SUNNY votes and one was a FOGGY, so the current preference stands at 8-6 for Sun.

Re: History of Nuclear War I [Phase Four Italy]

Postby Dukasaur on Thu Sep 15, 2011 10:54 am

In 1923 Enrico Fermi of Italy was the first to point out that Einstein's mass-equivalence equation offered a source of energy that could be harnessed. Almost twenty years would pass before he could demonstrate this power, but the idea began to spread. Fermi also developed the first complete model of beta decay.

Phase 4
25 players in 5 groups will play 5-player games on the Italy map. The first player eliminated in each game is out of the tournament. The remainder will go on to the next round.

Games have been created and invitations sent out.

We say goodbye to slickstick, Dibbun, spidey, callmecommander, and Stanneke.

NOTICE

Postby Dukasaur on Sat Oct 08, 2011 12:45 pm

NOTICE:
For the first time, there have been more SUNNY players killed off than FOGGY players, as follows:

slickstick, SUN
Dibbun, (no vote)
spidey, FOG
callmecommander, SUN
Stanneke, SUN

This leaves the current vote tied at 5 to 5!

Now, I could send out a PM asking if anyone wants to change their vote, but my experience with asking for re-votes in other tournaments is that most people just want me to do my job as Tournament Organiser and be decisive. Furthermore, I did originally say:
Dukasaur wrote:Fog or Sun: Foggy or Sunny status will be established by the votes of a majority of the remaining players. Please indicate your preference when you sign up, and this will settle it for the first phase. When players are eliminated, their votes will cease to count, so later phases may have a different Fog status than the earlier ones. You may also change your vote if you wish (just don't change it often enough to become annoying.) I won't bother chasing people for their votes; this will be a bonus for people who pay attention.

Therefore (I am finally learning to be decisive) I will stick to that and not send out a PM. Anyone who's paying attention to the rules knows that they have a right to change their vote. If they choose not to do so, that is their right.

The current vote is tied at 5 to 5, and since a decision must be made, I will choose FOG for this round (Phase Five).

Half of the people remaining are people who never voted, so if you don't like this, you can lobby the undecideds to change their vote to your preference before Phase Six....:-)

Re: History of Nuclear War I [Phase Five Germany again]

Postby Dukasaur on Sat Oct 08, 2011 1:01 pm

From 1934 to 1938 Otto Hahn, Lise Meitner, and Fritz Strassman bombarded uranium with neutrons, creating new elements which they mistakenly believed to be transuranic. Slowly but steadily they uncovered evidence that they were creating lighter elements instead, evidence which at first they could not believe. By December of 1938 the evidence had become irrefutable: Hahn and his team were forced to the conclusion that they had for the first time created nuclear fission, cleaving an atom into smaller atoms.
Phase 5
20 players in 4 groups will play 5-player games on the Germany map. The first player eliminated in each game is out of the tournament. The remainder will go on to the next round.

Games have been created and invitations sent out.

Yup. Once your vote is recorded, it stays the same unless you change it.

If you're ever curious about the votes, check out the "Players" spoiler in Post 2.

History of Nuclear War I [Phase Six Europe]

Postby Dukasaur on Tue Nov 22, 2011 9:23 pm

Toasted by the nuclear fire this round were fuzzy316, pleve, Marshallbobby, and Jessamine. 16 players remain. Three of the four fatalities were NO VOTE players, and Marshallbobby was a FOGGY vote. This would bring the vote to 5 Sun and 4 Fog, but meanwhile rjhankey has added his name to the Foggy list, so we are once again tied 5-5. Last time I had to break the tie, I went with Foggy, so to be fair this time I will go Sunny.

show: Phase 6

This round we say "bon voyage" to calicus and deantursx. Both were "no vote" players, so the vote remains 5-5 and for the third consecutive round I will have to break the tie. I'll continue with my policy of alternating, so this round is Foggy.
