I think he resigned because of the evidence that the earth is not 6000 years old, he was too old to continue with such a bullcrap.

That's not a papal thing at all. That's a protestant invention. Not even the Jews believe that the Torah is inerrant. It really is an anomaly.

lol, well i'm "catholic" with such "interst" in this religion that I didn't even know the official position of the vatican regarding this. But I'm pretty sure lots of hard core catholics are into that, not just protestants.

In other news, Creationists all share one common aspect: they lie in court under oath, therefore, they hate the Bible. As bible-haters, we should burn all creationists at the stake.

that depends on what evolution you are referring to.

Maybe some hot young shot is pushing him out?

This is my suspicion. Why would he not want to die a pope?

According to Paddy Power, the odds on favourite to be the next pope is Cardinal Marc Ouellet.

Amazing on what you can bet on nowadays. Even Father Dougal Maguire gets in on the act at a 1000/1 odds.

Lets not count out Tony Blair or George Bush though

A few excerpts:

A potentially explosive report has linked the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI to the discovery of a network of gay prelates in the Vatican, some of whom – the report said – were being blackmailed by outsiders.

The paper said the pope had taken the decision on 17 December that he was going to resign – the day he received a dossier compiled by three cardinals delegated to look into the so-called "Vatileaks" affair.

La Repubblica's report was the latest in a string of claims that a gay network exists in the Vatican. In 2007 a senior official was suspended from the congregation, or department, for the priesthood, after he was filmed in a "sting" organised by an Italian television programme while apparently making sexual overtures to a younger man.

In 2010 a chorister was dismissed for allegedly procuring male prostitutes for a papal gentleman-in-waiting. A few months later a weekly news magazine used hidden cameras to record priests visiting gay clubs and bars and having sex.

I suppose. I guess he meets the top three fundamentals of being a pope:

1. Male
2. Old
3. White

You forgot the 4th fundamental for being pope.
1. Male
2. Old
3. White
4. Blind eye on everything before him.

The video said you don't have to be a cardinal to be a pope. It just helps. But once they look at my wang, they will elevate me to Pope status immediately!

Why would they? As a Pope, you are sworn to a life of absenteeism and are married to God (I'm pretty sure that's for Catholics and not Protestants) thus you will never use your wang for its primary purpose.

On a semi-related note, I found this NYTimes / CBS News Poll interactive feature kind of interesting: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013 ... aphic.html
