but isn't the leading rusher in the nation and he did manage 144 yards today.
He averaged about 155 yds a game, I think it was.

Does allowing 144 yards of rushing to one guy really fit the definition of "contained"?
(Great goal line stand and game by the Cowboys, however.)

Considering BSU allowed well over 200, yes.

Interesting definition of "contained", you have there, but I will have to disagree with it. For a benchmark of sorts, the MOST rushing yardage the Nebraska defense has given up all season was 116 yards. And it's not because they can't stop the pass. <smile>

Though, it was lower then his season average, and the 1st OT stop was impressive. He was stopped 3 times in a row.

Trying? They converted THREE 4th downs on that final drive to tie the game
and send it into OVERTIME.
1 OT
Fresno State has a 1st & Goal at the Wyoming one yard line
and the Cowboy defense makes a goal line stand. Wow.
Oh snap... Wyoming has to settle for a 40 yard FG attempt
and misses it.
2 OT
WYOMING TOUCHDOWN!
Fresno State 4th and 5... fumbled and recovered by the Bulldogs... short of the marker.

There's no pinning them down on their own 1 and there's about as many things that can go wrong on the play as right...I think I would have actully kicked the field goal and forced Wyoming to create a touchdown to win it...

I agree.muy_thaiguy wrote:Which we did anyway.
No doubt...but it does put more pressure on the offense to be more aggressive. It could have forced different playcalls, resulting differently.

oVo wrote:Wyoming showed some offense today too with 234 rushing yards and 204 through the air.
Alexander ran for 137 and a touchdown, but Carta-Samuels at QB was the difference maker
coming up with a lot of big plays.

After two failed attempts from the one yard line in the first overtime, Fresno State should have kicked the field goal for the lead. They shut down the Cowboys forcing a 40 yard field goal attempt for the win, which failed leading to the second OT. Wudda cudda shudda will come up a lot on FSU's flight home.

For a benchmark of sorts, the MOST rushing yardage the Nebraska defense has given up all season was 116 yards. Now, the FIFTEEN yards of rushing they gave up to #12-ranked Virginia Tech and EIGHTEEN yards of rushing to #2-ranked Texas...that's "contained".
And it's not because Nebraska can't stop the pass. <smile>

I think Nebraska's defense was just trying to make their offense not look so bad compared to their opponents.
TheMissionary wrote:They also managed to lose both of those games by not stopping them when it matter. Wyoming of course did stop their opponent when it mattered.

The Hokies got a TD early and were held in check the rest of the day, 31 total rushing yards and 74 passing... until their final possession. Two passes doomed Nebraska as VT got a 78 yard reception followed by an 11 yard TD (which I remember as a 4th down play) with 21 seconds remaining to win 16-15. In their 4 loses he only team to distance themselves from Nebraska all year was Texas Tech (31-10) the rest... VT 16-15, Iowa State 9-7 and Texas 13-12. The Nebraska D has kicked butt in every game with only a single exception.
