Lord of the Rings isn't Sci-Fi at all.

To me it's a toss-up between Star Wars and The Matrix.

What no Stargate?

Hated the movie love the TV show. Anyways Star Wars (the original trilogy) is by far the best Sci-fi franchise out there. Star Trek may have been the first real Sci-fi show, however Star Wars was what made the genre great.

Shame to see the lack of Blade Runner love, but I do have to ask the eternal question- which version did you see?

The Final Cut/Directors Cut are a lot better than the original release. I might be just telling you what you already know, but the cuts remove the narration and suggest Deckard was a replicant.

Also, still can't watch that movie without thinking Edward J Olmos is unrecognisable vs the Battlestar Galactica stuff.

The sci-fi channel did a miniseries a while back, much more faithful to the original. Still nowhere near being the best sci-fi film, but yeah- it is close to the book.

they are trying to remake it. the project has changed hands of a few directors. I heard they are considering doing it avatar style.

Moon looks pretty good.

Screamers was great, Blade-Runner was superior, and Pitch Black was kick-ass.

I know there's a limit on how many you ccan list in a poll, but I would like to give an honorable mention to:
Starship Troopers
Mars Attack
The Day the Earth Stood Still
(original version)
The Truman Show
Dark Star

and, even though I don't like any of 'em, I'da thought Planet of the Apes would make the poll.

Just rented moon. Don't know if will be a "classic" in the future like those on the list but I would give it 7 out of 10. Good story. Interesting acting. Low budget.

First Planet of the Apes, or the entire series?

You forgot Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn in my opinion the best of all the old school Star Trek movies.

Well, I don't like any of 'em, but many people are very fond of the Charlton Heston version. I have at least a half-hour rant ready at hand any time about why the plot is shit. (makeup great, some great acting, but the plot is seriously crap).

My favourite sci-fi films, in no particular order;

Blade Runner
Total Recall
Alien 1, 2 & 3
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Terminator
Starship Troopers
Empire Strikes Back
The Day The Earth Stood Still (original)
Fifth Element
Logan's Run
Galaxy Quest

Not movies, but TV shows - Loved Firefly, still hoping they bring it back someday. The new Battlestar Galactica might be up there as one of the best television shows I've ever seen (along with The Sopranos and The Wire). I know people were disappointed with the ending, but I thought the show was outstanding.

I agree on Firefly and Battlestar. The first season of Heroes was good, but downhill after that.

I saw Moon in the theater, and was thoroughly entertained, but don't know if I would ever watch it again.

I'm surprised that noone has mentioned Avatar yet. I thought it was one of the top 5 Sci Fi movies of all time, right up there with Star Wars (old school)

Aliens was way better than Alien, and the other sequels were terrible.

Moon was really good. Blade Runner is definitely one of my all time favorites.

Total Recall and Robocop are suspiciously missing.

SEE YOU AT THE PARTY, RICHTER!
