Well the rest of the world, is it true? Do you really hate us as much as I am led to believe or is that just the "popular image"?

Not sure if I've mentioned it before but Saxi is German and, though I grew up skeptical of Ameriker and yearning for its liberation, in my twenty years here I have grown to appreciate it much. Europeans are a tiny, insular, bad-smelling* and - generally - racist people who hate anything that isn't like them. Ergo, they hate Ameriker but love Canadians as the latter sycophantically slave after them and try to emulate them in tone, mannerism and appearance. Canadians happily lollop in their high-chair when a European pats them on the head and says what a wonderful, egalitarian and enlightened little fuzzy-wuzzy country you've grown up to become! "Coo coo, giggle, purrrr," the fat, happy Canadian will reply contentedly, waving his chubby little arms in the air and smiling so open-mouthed that drool runs down his bib.

Indeed, if there were a battle royale between the Fascist Republic of Germany and the USofAmeriker, I would cheer for the latter to win and happily purchase a front row ticket to see the Reichstag immolated.

Now, mind you, that would be mere cheering a match between football rivals, I would be ideologically disinterested as both nations are parasitically capitalist and I would rather see Cuba win over any of them, but I'm just saying ... given a choice between the USofAmeriker and Neo-Fascist Germany (or pretty much any European nation other than Belgium because Saxi could not live without a bottle of fine Trappist ale with his cereal each morning - ACK!), I would happily choose Ameriker.

I've got this "thing" with Canada. I've been to Canada a couple times (once when I was younger and once last Halloween) and I made no secret about being an American. Everyone was nice and friendly, I had a great time. It's a nice country with nice people. However whenever I encounter Canadians online they like to make a big deal about how they don't like America, or Americans. Uhhh... so when we're in person we're friends but as soon as I leave you hate me??? I mean WTF is that?!

Like Saxi said when Europeans love Canadians because they hold them too an ideal. They say if you're an American in Europe just tell everyone you're a Canadian and you'll be treated better. Point is they can't tell the difference. I CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE. The Canadian accent (which as far as I can tell is a joke made up just to promote the idea that there is a difference) is far less distinct than the differences between various accents just within America (for example the difference between a Southern accent and a Boston accent). Best I can tell we are the same damn people. Culturally descended from the Brits, with a whole huge as fucking continent to spread out across and call home. Only difference is that we we're the older child who rebelled against mom and dad, and Canada is the younger son who just waited until it was time to go off to college.

Moral of the story is that we are brothers. We are not enemies, so why all the internet hate?!?

Bison Guy, you exemplify the Rainbow Rule!

I have dedicated my life to promoting tolerance and diversity, however, I have a personal failing and that is in my attitude toward Canada and Dutchland as I have enunciated many times in these forums. I am trying to overcome it and it is a topic I occasionally broach with my therapist, and I am also seeing a pranic healer to help rid me of an inappropriately ingrained prejudice. I'm sorry, but I just have a really hard time forgiving them for what they did to Old Tom I and Silly Lady I.

I'm not certain I'll ever have the kind words you have to share with the gang vis a vis Canada (certainly not Dutchland) and I will continue to protest outside the Canada consulate in Los Angeles each and every July 1 in solidarity with members of the Somali community of southern California.

But that's just ol' Saxi. Probably gonna need to hit the town looking for some IRL Hugs now gang, this kind of touched a sore spot with Saxi and rekindled some not-so-fond memories.

Try not to be too offended, it too is a complex relationship (but maybe not to a lot of people) I guess what I'm saying is that I also like Mexican people (I just like people man, all people (except maybe the Chinese (there's just too damn many of them (and they're so old school (like really crazy old school (I know this because I've worked for the Chinese at 2 different jobs (my boss beat her kid like every day))))))) All the Mexican people I've met are so damn chilled out and I like that. I try not to give a f*ck (don't always succeed) so I like people that don't give a f*ck. Like my friend Augustine. He was Mexican, we worked together for that crazy Chinese bitch who beat her kid at this shitty fast food resteraunt. Whenever she wasn't around we would drink beers in back and just talk. It really let's you see the cultural similarities. Especially when working for the Chinese. You see how much more you are alike than different, but let's be honest Mexico is a shithole.
