Why would they invite him, anyway?

You know.. that was hilarious up until the video clip and then it just got stupid.

But, I don't get why they invited him either. Unless they thought he was serious and not a satirist. I know that there are still a few people out there that think "The Daily Show" is a legitimate news show. People want to be interviewed by them hoping they'll get positive nationwide coverage not realizing they'll be made fun of.

It was supposed to be aired live on CSPAN, does anyone know if they actually showed it? I would pay good money to have a tape of it. He only showed the hindenburg analogy on his show Monday so I had a good laugh going over the rest.

thank god for people like him who remind us of who is actually sitting in the Oval Office.

He wasnt funny and he usually is so thats odd. But good times for Bush-haters. You dont have to be funny as long as you are insulting Bush, plenty of people will love you regardless.

the thing is, he wasnt funny because he wasnt really insulting Bush as much as bringing to light all of his...deeds.

Yeah, and we never get to hear from Bush-haters about how bad he is. So its really great that he went and insulted the host at this dinner repeatedly and without humor, it was worth it because otherwise nobody would ever know. Glad Colbert exposed all that for us.

You people do realize that this dinner is what is called a ROAST and at such events, what he did is why he was invited. They do this every year and have for years. Did you notice right before Colbert came on Bush was on stage with a Bush impersonator making fun of himself?

I do think the video went on too long.

Yeah, there is a difference between roasting somebody and just taking the excuse to flat insult them. But maybe you are right and all the coverage of Colberts' act is blown way out of proportion.

look, i wont try to hide my disdain for the surrent president but it was the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, its not like it was Bush's birthday. And there was humor in there, but if you are a Bush supporter it might not have been very funny humor.

lighten up mccarthy. i didnt think it was all that funny but i did like the jokes about bush's approval ratings. the video at the end spent way too much time dragging out a lame joke.

Im a Bush supporter and I watch the hell out of the Daily Show and Colbert report because they are funny. This stuff want funny because it wasnt funny. He wasnt "roasting" him. Hes a guy that doesnt like Bush and made a point of NOT being funny so he could more effectively insult the guy, in my opinon.

If he had actually just roasted him it would have made no news at all, thats what youre supposed to do. Juvenille of Colbert to act like that, and Id have said the same if somebody had crossed the line at a dinner for Clinton. Let the man eat his damned dinner without insulting him for chrissakes.

ok, thats a valid point and i sort of agree with you, but how is it insulting Bush to state the facts (granted they were delivered in a way that made them more than that) its not like Colbert said "Bush you are an idiot and smell of horse poop" he simply stated that Bush's ratings are very, very low and that people should not forget that.

Strange, Joe McCarthy that at least 3/4 of the people I've heard talk about this (at least 20+) have all agreed it was funny for a variety of reasons, if the audience had been laughing more, I assure you, you would have thought it was better. Perhaps it was less funny because a lot of it was strikingly true?

Steven Colbert has big Cajones, and I got some chuckles out of it.

I wish you would either.
A) Leave
B) Die
C) Both
D) All of the above.

I pick the latter.
