The more I am convinced that the Republicans are going to get crushed. I mean is Rick Santorum the best they can come up with? He appeals to the Republican base but that's it. Last time I checked the majority of most actual people don't fit into that category. The only reason it seems that he's gotten this far is because the Republican base hates Mitt Romney for being too moderate. Mitt Romney was a better ticket in because he actually has some appeal to people who are in the middle who are dissatisfied with Obama. Ron Paul's being ignored by the media and type cast as "insane" and "dangerous" even though out of all the GOP candidates Paul is by far the most likely to actually steal votes away from the people who would have voted for Obama.

Meanwhile the Economies been improving, Jobs have been returning, Bin Ladin's dead, and the Iraq war is over.

I'm pretty much convinced Obama will get another 4 years as president.

It's likely a pipe dream, but I'd like to think that had Paul gotten the nomination, he could have beaten Obama. But, he's not a true republican, so no way he could ever get that nomination.

Looks like we'll go back and forth, back and forth from republican to democrat for as long as the U.S. remains a nation. Fun stuff.

It's weird, because I always have thought that both parties would always put forth "the guy who is most likely to take out the other party"...that's generally held true. But this year, that SHOULD be Ron Paul, and there really shouldn't be any question of that. It's almost as if the Republicans have resigned themselves to a second Obama Presidency, just to make sure Ron Paul doesn't get in there (because THEY don't like his politics).

Likely, they see Paul as a bigger threat to the status quo than Obama. That's my take on it, anyway.

Weirdly, I think that's probably true.

Ron Paul didn't necessarily do much to dispel that fear with his platform either.

The main talking point the Republicans had is that Obama hasn't done much to fix the economy. If the economy recovers a significant amount, I think Obama wins easily.

I don't think Paul could beat Obama anyway. Obama would get the normal Democrat votes, but he'd also pick up a lot of establishment Republican votes. Obama is more of a big government Republican when it comes to fiscal policies so he's the safer bet for entrenched Republicans than Paul.

Perhaps...but I'm not so sure. There is a LOT of unhappiness with Obama in liberal circles. Given a more liberal alternative (which Ron Paul is), I don't think he would hold as many Democratic votes as you believe.

I agree with this. You know, it occurs to me that this could have been a very funny election...with Democrats voting for the Republican and Republicans voting for the Democrat.

I agree with this. You know, it occurs to me that this could have been a very funny election...with Democrats voting for the Republican and Republicans voting for the Democrat.

I would love to see something like that. It would totally take the party system out of the equation.
