In this thread I shall ask your opinion on various pressing issues related to the 2012 Olympics in London. The poll will occasionally change.

QUESTION 1

Which Olympic event of yesteryear do you wish would be reinstated for the 2012 Olympics?

Croquet (Reigning Champion: France) - discontinued in 1900 after only France participated

Roque; American-Rules Croquet (Reigning Champion: United States) - discontinued in 1904 after only the United States participated

Golf (Reigning Champion: United States) - discontinued in 1904 but will return in 2016

Tug of War (Reigning Champion: United Kingdom) - discontinued in 1920 due to declining popularity; City of London Police Team won final gold

Baseball (Reigning Champion: South Korea) - discontinued in 2008 due to unpredictable length of games and limited appeal

Did you know that no high jumper in the history of high jumping has never managed to stay off of the ground for more than a second?

Yes, but we have a petition going around to make it compulsory to play in the buff, AS NATURE INTENDED.

Bankrupt Spain Gets Free Uniforms from Charity

Spanish Olympians are learning a painful lesson as they suit up for Friday's opening ceremony in London: You get what you pay for. With Spain on the brink of bankruptcy, its Olympic committee decided to save money this year. It got its Olympic uniforms for free, from the Russian designer Bosco, which also provided kits for the Russian and Ukrainian teams. But several Spanish athletes have taken to Twitter to express their distaste for the freebie clothes they're required to wear.

Do the Olympics reinforce nationalism and heteronormativity?

I'd say, "Hell yeah, Beebs! and the nation-states fund these venues with no consent from their governed."

NZ uniforms are actually kinda cool, its just most of our athletes are ugly as sin so it kinda backfires.

Maybe would should dress the spanish athletes in NZ uniforms, and the kiwis in Spains; that way we can have ugly/ugly and sexy/sexy?

Yeah why dont we add cricket while we're at it... /snooze.

I for one HATE the fact 7s Rugby is being added in 2016.

Olympics should be about individual or small team performances. Leave the big sports to their world cups imo (though BB doesnt have a world cup does it?)

There's the winter classic every four years which is pretty much the baseball world cup. You can't put it in the Olympics though because baseball is played in the summer here in NA and the MLB arguably has the best players in the world so that's a big hit.

Exceptional fitness is required for that sport. It's not any more boring that soccer.

jumping up and down for 35 straight hours requires exceptional fitness but that doesn't make it any more of a sport.

also, nice ninja edit john. I saw you originally had "legendary triple negative"

I misread a word. It happens. I'm suprised that you'd go all batshit on it like this, to be honest. See, unlike those who I accuse of reading comprehension failures (every time...go ahead and look), I have no problem admitting that I misread it. But don't let that stop you from going all batshit...seems like a pretty over-the-top response to my fairly soft post, but hey, at least Saxi liked it, so you've got the trolls on your side.

If you would make the choice to conduct yourself with maturity and grace you wouldn't find yourself in positions where you're being regularly called out for going utterly apeshit over minor miscues.

The way you choose to conduct yourself is so unusual, however, that John's question was a sound and reasonable inquiry as to your cognitive status. I certainly don't think you should read it as an insult.
