Lol, a perfectly good article gone to crap because they decide to connect it all the way to gas prices. I'm not so sure it's a liberal political statement so much as it is an attempt to make an otherwise boring article sound more juicy, though certainly there could be some liberal bias. I wouldn't expect a conservative to write an article like that.

I'm so sick of the media reporting all these stories about the benefits of high gas prices.
I already heard the bit about high gas prices saving lives. The government estimates that with fewer people driving, 600 less people will die every year on the highways.
While we are at it, lets wipe out all the jobs in America, so then the media can report there were finally 0 work site injuries or deaths., an ALL TIME LOW!!!! woo hoo!

Seems like common sense to me. Higher prices causes less driving, which causes less pollutants in the air, which would mean the air is cleaner, but I guess not for you two clowns.

Except they don't even try to tie it to things like smog and other pollutants, especially in big cities. They tie it to causing more thunderstorms which apparently cause more pollen to be in the air. It's quite ridiculous.

How much do you know about energy economics? I'd ask you to please edit your post because it is incorrect.
Energy prices are on a one way track upwards. Sure the current gas prices are artifically high, but the underlying energy supply/demand equilibrium is only heading upwards.

Pirlo has put you guys to shame....
He is right. Price of gas is because the middle east can and has united on one damn thing - price per barrel.
and because of that, they will always be a target.
More allergies are produced from flower pollen by times 10000 than gas emissions btw... lol
Humans are not allergic to emissions as a rule.

How effective is the OPEC cartel at maintaining and enforcing a fixed price?

Hey now, dont just give OPEC all the credit. There's a whole bunch of government agencies and powerful players that have served to butcher the market quite well; a good old fashioned team effort if you will.

Hm... collusion with a little bit of help of THE COERCIVE POWER OF THE STATE could do the trick. I agree.
1. I heard sniffing gasoline reduces your tendency to sneeze.

YEAH! AND EVERYONE IS BROKE! WOO_HOO! HEY I AM COMING UP SHORT ON GROCERY BILLS! OH WELL MRS. CRABTREE IS DRIVING LESS! OOH THANKS I AM LESS STARVING ALREADY!!!!
But seriously now what will your opinion be when they switch the narrative to "Only Rich people can afford to drive/go anywhere. That's not fair!"
Even Obama said that when gas was $3.50, that just meant that Washington was working for the oil companies.

He is quasi-correct in pointing out that real income decreases as gas prices increase--depending on the elasticity of one's demand for gasoline, which for most Americans is inelastic.
What's the benefit of increased gas prices? Some nebulous gain in marginally cleaner air. But if people shift to substitutes like bicycles or mass transmit, then the demand for those increases, which will lead to an increased production and usage of those services. So the additional pollution created by a shift in demand for substitutes like the two above will marginally decrease air quality to some unknown level.
