Quality start

In baseball, a quality start means a starting pitcher throwing for at least 6 innings and allowing no more than 3 runs. This is a relatively new statistic, and in this batters era that's normally all it takes for a win. A pitcher who throws 20 quality starts in a season is a very good pitcher.
Now, the "quality" here is probably from the context of doing it fine over and over, like a certification. It must be. Because I think 6 innings and 3 runs is not a quality start. It's just a good start and that's it.
I think a quality start should be 7 innings and no more than 2 runs.
What do you think?

6 innings 3 runs is definitely good enough to be a quality start, especially with the emergence of specialty bullpens.
And unless you're the Nats, who can't get 3 hits a game it seems, 3 runs is low enough for the offense to win you a game.
Yes, I am frustrated by the Nats' current 5 game losing streak, in which I believe we have had 3 quality starts.

3 run over 6 innings = 4.50 ERA. That is not good by any means, no matter how you look at it. It is enough, but it is not quality.
2 runs over 6 innings= 3.00 ERA. THAT is way more of a quality game. I have watched baseball since '89, and have been a Braves fan through all of it, so I know quality pitching. In my mind, if you can have the tying run on deck during a shutout from the opposing team for 6 or more innings, you are pitching a quality game.

I love the complete lack of production from the Nats at the moment
