It's hard to win an election when you shoot and kill your largest donor in Libya.

my favorite part...

Hollande wants to renegotiate a hard-won European treaty on budget cuts that Germany’s Angela Merkel and Sarkozy had championed. He wants more government stimulus, and more government spending in general despite concerns from markets that France needs to urgently trim its huge debts.

Sounds like he wants to ignore those concerns. Be sure to let us know who to blame....

It's a good political strategy for the short-term.

Is it an assumption that all left parties are pro-irresponsible spending? The guy said that he plans on lowering France's debt to 0 by 2017 and even CAPPING DEFICITS (which is as close as you'll get to a balanced budget amendment being proposed anywhere in Europe, Scotty).

This will be the end of Europe. I haven't seen anyone mention that Sarkozy's party still controls the chancery and a majority in parliament. Far from change, everything in France is about to grind to a gigantic halt. (Unless I'm missing something? [It wouldn't be the first time.]) This is the best possible outcome for extremist parties.

When everything in society is working correctly, parliamentary governments are so much more interesting than congressional governments. When things stop working, however ...

do you know the difference between socialism and comunism? seems like some people in the US can't see it. well there is much more difference between both than between republicans and democrats, trust me.

Ultimately, does it matter? Neither will produce more freedom for people, and both will involve a bigger governmental system and wealth redistribution.

Except the whole "state withering away" (literally disappearing) thing that communism involves, but let's ignore that.

Except no communist government has ever removed the government and handed it over to the people. They've taken the power and crushed the people.

More than a massive endorsement of a Socialist agenda, (which Hollande isn't really about, he's a moderate, not that there's anything wrong with actual Socialists) it's more of a victory for less extreme austerity measures over extreme austerity measures.
Also, Hollande wins for excellent use of Kanye. "That shit Creil." Love it.

You should have read that more carefully. I was quoting something about the person, not all left parties

He wants more government stimulus, and more government spending

so is this lies then?

Yes. Communism is Socialism with a gun.

Socialism and communism are ideological doctrines that have many similarities as well as many differences. One point that is frequently raised to distinguish socialism from communism is that socialism generally refers to an economic system, and communism generally refers to both an economic system and a political system. The means of production are publicly owned in both systems, but the ways that money and resources are distributed are different. In socialism, each person is allotted resources according to his or her input, or amount of work, and in communism, each person is allotted resources according to his or her needs. Many people consider communism to be a "higher" or more extreme form of socialism.

Man, it's going to be so awesome when Obama actually becomes a socialist in term two. He'll be all like :Barry White voice: "Yeah, Baby, I want the insurance market to be encouraged to provide reasonable coverage to everyone by increasing competition between companies, and offering a government option to provide a minimum standard which, if the private companies can't beat out, might provide a sad reflection on modern American ingenuity."

:Biden voice: "Also, the gays."

And then Ron Paul will be all like :Tony Jay voice: "No! We, as Americans, have been rabidly anti-socialist for four score years! We are not so stupid that we see through your facade straight through to your Stalinist evil! You, however, must be a fool to think that you could slide this communism by us! We have guns, and will defend ourselves from whatever windmills we may see when confronted by a policy we a) don't understand and b) sounds like communism.

Obama: er, it's not like I'm nationalizing healthcare, industry, finance, or...

Paul: Pol Pot!

Obama: but...

Paul: Stalin! :shoots Obama:

because the french are notoriously... well, french. they have a habit of protesting and complaining over minor encumberances and going on strike when their christmas bonuses arent large enough. they did endorse (by a small marjority, yes, but a majority nonetheless) hollande, who has promised to increase government spending during a deficit and debt crisis, and still seems to think that he can cut the debt down to 0 in 5 years, showing that the french dont even learn elementary math in school, raising the question of why they spend billions on forcing every child to go to school :-s .

Timminz, we in the US only approve of democracy if it furthers our political agenda. Stop being reasonable.

Or more likely, you've misunderstood the difference between a promise to reduce the government deficit to 0 (what Hollande promised) with reducing the debt to 0.

Still, your economic expertise has been appreciated.

im not even ethiopian... its just the french fail at everything they attempt so hard that they deserve to get made fun of just a little. its not the people i dont like. its the country. and ethiopia is the only country in africa never to be colonized. there are no colonies left in africa, and not even anywhere in the world. they are pretty much just territories, not colonies. and they are small, virtually uninhabited islands. colonialism ended when it went out of style in the 60's.

He also campaigned on raising taxes for the rich. This socialist from France sounds an awful lot like Obama, but I need to point out, in now way is Obama a socialist, not even close. He's pretty much the opposite of a Socialist. Yet, Obama will try to get elected on the same platform other socialists have run on and won with, but I repeat, there is no way Obama is even close to a Socialist.

What is now Ethiopia was colonised by the Italians ( Embarassing or what  ) from 1936-41.
The British conquered it a century earlier but saw no profit in colonising it , no strategic or commercial benefit I would guess.
