The Life of Julia

The Obama campaign is actively promoting that the government takes care of every person from cradle-to-grave. How can people live free when the government is in control of every minute of your life?

Wasn't the girls name in Orwell's "1984" Julia?

Hey, I'm not the one running on a platform of the government providing everything you want. Now that position is insane.

You're insane if you think anyone is running on that platform. You're running against nobody.

It's on Obama's campaign website. He's running on it. His platform is that the government is good and will take care of anything you want.

I just went through all those Julia steps. If you read all of Obama's plans, you would never guess our country was just downgraded twice or that we were running trillion dollar deficits. Sounds like under Obama's plan, we are in for TONS of debt, TONs of borrowing, and a TONs of spending....oops, did I call it spending? I meant to say "investing".

In other words, Obama's plan is to do what Europe did!

Looks like another thread where Night Strike regurgitates the same rhetoric guys like Jason Todd Ready did.

and pd doesn't offer any argument except attacking the poster, but we should wait for his sarcastic, acidic, poisonous response in a new thread, possibly tomorrow. After all, he represents the second coming of Voltaire. ANd he is a a movie critic/genius too.

You've really gone off the reservation on this one. Bat shit loco, if you will. Seriously though, when you see the word Obama, does your brain switch off?

If a conservative said something like:

a) Obama is a traitor
b) Obama wants to kill Americans
c) Obama is telling people they can get whatever they want
d) Obama is a communist, anarchist, fascist, socialist, colonialist, anti-colonialist, atheist, Christian, Muslim?

Would you simply nod your head after the word Obama if the tone was generally critical?

I know it's ridiculous to say so, but please go look at that link. It has nothing to do with what NS says, government "taking care of every person from cradle to grave". Please.

It's highlighting things that Obama supports that supposedly will help out females, to try and sell him to female voters. And of course it's highlighting things that Romney disagrees with.

Well said. And NS complains when the media gives misinformation. Look who is giving misinformation now. :)

It is something that will supposedly help out with female voters.

It highlights things that the government provides that Obama supports. It also does not highlight the taxes this women would pay if she was successful in her private endeavors.

Frankly, I found it kind of insulting (so did mrs. thegreekdog for what that's worth).

EDIT - Nola's signature is one of the best I've seen.

The site is saying "Look at all the great things the government will provide for you at every step of your life." Since when is it the government's job to provide all these things for you? Shouldn't you be taking care of yourself and your family instead of the government providing everything?

I'm not sure the ad says what you think it says. Support does not equal provision. Were we watching the same video? Surely it's arguing that the gov't will help, rather than your reading of "the gov't will give it to you" (to paraphrase).

A non-cynical take on how governments can help ordinary folk, surely?

Government help = taking from someone else to give to you. Why can't people take care of themselves? Remember, the character in that ad is presumably a successful woman (with no mention of marriage, yet she does have at least one kid).

And people should ALWAYS be cynical of the government: it's how freedom prevails.

I accept that last point to a certain level- a degree of cynicism is healthy when it comes to government. I don't accept that government can never be helpful, or that when it is helpful it's somehow hurting other people.

When it's running entitlement programs or wealth redistribution, then it's inherently benefiting some while hurting others. However, when it protects the rights guaranteed by its founding document and adhering to only the tasks outlined in that document, then it is helping all people.

The other thing I find odd about your posts is how willingly you accept some of these terms "entitlement" and "wealth redistribution". By themselves, of course, they're nonsensical, to the point of ridicule.
