Will Tiger ever be Tiger again?

So he won his second tourney of the year this this weekend. He's been pretty shitty this year though, so I don't want to freak out and think he's back already.
but the way he won it was like the old Tiger, so at least I'm optimistic.
Golf needs Tiger, in my opinion, because I don't think Rory is good enough to carry the sport.

Man, Bubba and Rickey Fowler are going to be good in the years to come, and they bring as much fun to the game as tiger did when he was younger, if not more. The thing about tiger making golf popular was that he dominated, and did so as a huge minority. Now that golf is pretty much a mainstream sport, it doesn't need tiger to maintain its following.

It honestly seems like he won't.
But who knows until it's all said and done.

I don't know, I really don't trust them to be as good as everyone wants them to be. People love domination, especially in one-man sports, like Djokavic in tennis last year or Serena in her prime.
I think most of the people who watch golf today are like me and are still hoping Tiger gets back to his old form. Now, Tiger is really the reason I got into golf, though I know I'm going to continue to watch golf post-Tiger. But I feel like overall, if this trend of "no one is allowed to win two majors" thing continues, golf's popularity is going to go down the poop chute.

But regardless of the viewership, golf is becoming more and more popular (as far as I can tell), and isn't that what is most important.

Five top-5 finishes in 11 events in 2012 (and two wins)? Not exactly "pretty shitty". Any other golfer would love to do that.

Actually, viewership and playing numbers have been dropping. I just tried finding the article with the stats that I read a few months ago but came up empty... The main reasoning behind the drops in playing numbers is the growing cost and time to play a round.

I think if he continues to golf for the next 20-30 years, and joins the ranks of golfers who play competitively into their 'old-age', he has a decent chance to win a few more majors, plus any number of official PGA Tour wins.

yeah that's true. I have taken up golf, but never actually play a round cuz I don't want to spend $20 plus for greens fees, then 15+ for a cart (and the only times i've played, i've walked, with the exception of a free round+cart)

Shitty compared to his previous career. Obviously any normal golfer would kill to have the year he's having, but I was really disappointed by his Masters finish (especially when he got tied for fourth the previous two years, despite all the shit he's been through).

Unless someone else is paying, I never get a cart. It's not worth it and it's nice getting the exercise, haha. My theory is that if I hit the ball well, I'll just be walking straight the whole time and I really won't need a cart.

I have no problem with the walking really. It is nice to enjoy the weather (as most of the time I golf in optimal weather conditions) and it adds a little more activity in a sport that isn't really that strenuous in the cardio-vascular sense. But it's a pain in the ass when you're lugging your clubs for hundreds of yards and then have to keep your body aligned while swinging and shit. It's like an endurance test for your body.

Tiger's looking exceptional so far.
Everyone else at the top of the rankings are sucking giant dick. I think the only person Tiger has to worry about is Furyk. Other than that I expect all of the other players at -1 to go above par.

Golf's fun. If I had more money I'd go more often.

He's just gonna do the same as Michael Schumacher: trudge on and on and on and on and on until he's 50 and can't come anywhere but last rather than just retiring on a high like any sensible person would.
As far as I'm concerned he's already 'that boring old golfer who used to be awesome'.

I really hope he comes back in full force. He's been looking decent so far this year and if he can win this masters I can say fairly confidently he's back for now. He's already ranked #4 in the world again after falling into the 50's I think (maybe it was the 20's but he still fell pretty far).

The thing with Tiger Woods is that he basically rejuvenated a tired game. Younger players coming up, many of which inspired by the kind of game he played, will surpass him.
He inspired more people to get into golf, and he inspired the players who were already playing when he started playing to step up their game.
Golf isn't what it was when he started.
He'll be formidable till he retires from pro golf, but recognising that he's no longer playing against the old guard, but against players who had to make changes to keep up with him should be as much a part of his legacy as his massive achievements within the game already.

I want Tiger to win a major again, but I'l lbe fine if Furyk ends up winning tomorrow. It's hard not to love him...especially his swing.

I want to go to an event just to yell that on National television

doubly disappointing. Tiger reverted to Tiger of the last 2 years and Furyk crapped his pants on last two holes.
Webb Simpson? Who?

Tiger with a big win at his own tourney.
He's still not quite dominate early oughts Tiger, but he's certainly back to the best in the world.
