CONDI RICE?

... A bad choice for VP, in my opinion.

... She was an icon of the Neoconservatives back in Bush's day, and has too many close ties to groups that will make her an easy target (she once had an oil tanker named for her by Shell, or some other).

... I can already see the Democrat's commercials: "Mitt Romney - years as a super-wealthy elite, outsourcing US jobs to China. Condi Rice - tied to Big Oil and weapons manufacturers... Do you think they are in touch with the American people? Do you think they have your interests at heart... or the interests of of corporations? .... Or similar.

... The truth won't matter, it never does on the commercials. The "Bachelor" & "Biggest Loser"-obsessed American public will gobble it up unquestioned.

... Terrible choice. Any opinions?

Those are excellent questions. Exactly the kind of thing people should be considering, when deciding who they would like to run their country.

She is black, a woman, as well as a conservative. She is the counter to many charges against Romney. That is, after all, the real purpose of a VP.

If only she was gay, and left-handed, too...

The best choice ever:

She's Condi-licious.

yea, I feel like it'll help Romney a lot more than it'll hurt.

I'm not sure. I can certainly see your points...but I've always been rather a fan of hers. She's exceptionally intelligent, as well. It's definitely a better choice than McCain's. And I think I even like her better than Biden (although Biden's GREAT for the comic relief...).

I just don't think that was why Romney chose her....

But, maybe I am just getting a tad too cynical.

Oh, I have no question there are cynical reasons why she was selected. That's politics and, frankly, to be expected. But that is, in my opinion, irrelevant to what she brings to the table.

I thought Condi was one of the only ones who were opposed to the wars. But yes she is extremely tied to oil interests though. Exxon mobile named an oil tanker after her before she was in the Bush admin.

I agree the truth won't matter. It will to me and people like me and you, but the number of people are growing who don't give a crap and vote on a whim or based on looks or how someone sounds and their ability to bullshit you right to your face, or even nowadays, vote only based on skin color.

She's a woman, and she's black, so she may pull a certain proportion of the plebeian masses that would otherwise vote for Obama.

It would be a bad idea for Romney to pick Rice. If Romney did choose her as his running mate, then that gives implied agreement with the Iraq war. Rice was one of the biggest cheerleaders for the invasion and ousting of good ole Sadaam. The war has been characterized as one of the biggest strategic blunders in American history. Support for the invasion is low.

Romney had nothing to do with the decision for invading Iraq. It's not his mess. If he takes Rice as his running mate though, he makes it his mess. Rice will spend the entire campaign rehashing and defending the Iraq war.
Do we remember this little ditty?-
Condi Rice wrote:There will always be some uncertainty about how quickly Saddam can acquire nuclear weapons. But we don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud."

Reigniting the Iraq war is a bad idea for Romney. Romney will find himself in a position of either agreeing with Rice or disagreeing with her on the Iraq war. Neither of those courses sit well at all.

Not only that, but what are Rice's views on domestic issues? The only thing we've ever heard is that she is "mildly pro choice". That bodes ill for Romney as well. Voters are already suspicious of his supposed conservatism, will Rice be able to recite the right line through a hostile media that will appeal to the conservative voters?

I have a certain amount of respect for Rice, she's accomplished a lot. But if Romney picks her as his running mate he'd only serve to hamstring himself...
