Anybody have a list of movies that should NEVER be remade?

Personally;
Grease
The Music Man (although it happened already, it was pulled off the air after the first night)
The Sound of Music
Bruce Lee films
Little Giants
Wizard of Oz

And will probably add more later.

In general I agree with you... but there are some times where a remake might be OK in my mind.

King Kong for example... the ability to redo it with special effects is so much better that it could be redone well.

Though I think the latest attempt at a remake was poor.

Ditto with Planet of the Apes... the technology could have made the remake awesome... but the Mark Wahlberg remake sucked.

However, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was very well done... not a true remake, but similar.

Any classic movie shouldn't even be remotely touched. Movies like Karate Kid I don't really care about, because it's not really classic, it's just an important movie to a lot of people.

But if they remake something like Dr. Stangelove, heads are going to roll.

I think he means "the Wiz" with Micheal Jackson.

I don't consider that a remake, I consider it a spoof.

They did a remake of The Producers. Nothing is sacred any more...

I was going to put Dances With Wolves but that was remade and called Avatar.

Do you mean movies that are so good that to re-make them would be like sacrilege, or that are so bad that we should just give up on the whole concept, or are you looking for both and we should specify which?

Re: The Music Man -- are you referring to a TV movie from ages back? I think I have that on VHS still. I've been meaning to watch it. If it's that awful, now I MUST see it.

Re: The WIzard of Oz: I don't think anyone has tried to adapt the original story recently (apart from an animated series some years ago). Disney made that dark film, Return to Oz, (based on the second and third Oz books, I think) and lost a bundle because it's really too brutal to show to children. Now I hear that a prequel, Oz The Great And Powerful, is coming (saw a trailer). I think they made this because they couldn't get the film rights to the musical Wicked.
