Is there no decency in this world?

Seriously, is there nothing sacred? Some fucking asshole is remaking Evil Dead, and apparently Raimi approves it. What a dick. Like ruining the Spider-man franchise wasn't enough, he has to soil his own earlier work. Next he'll probably redo Darkman as well.

This part sent me into a frothing rage:

A Sam Raimi-approved Evil Dead remake is coming, whether fans like it or not. This particular recycling of a beloved cult classic is very much embracing Hollywood’s “darker and grittier” remake creed, by abandoning the mix of over-the-top gore and Three Stooges-style comedy from Raimi’s original film(s), in favor of a dead-serious supernatural horror flick, with Ichi the Killer levels of violence.

Today, we have news about the film’s male lead role (who is not Ash) being filled, along with a “set photo” released by the new Evil Dead‘s director, Fede Alvarez, which shows off “the path to hell” in the movie.

if there wasn't a demand, there wouldn't be a supply. Yell at the idiots that give these people money.

Huh. I'm not surprised, though I am surprised that Raimi isn't more involved. Has he completely ruined his stock in Hollywood or what? I'm also not surprised that they'll go more the route of the first film than the second or Army. But, at this point, barring a cameo from Campbell and Rape Tree with face zoom, it does seem more appropriate to just call it something else. Evil Dead is sort of a movie port of Raimi's personality with the stars aligning to bring Bruce in to act it out. It's weird to think of it being done any other way.

Wasn't Evil Dead 2 a remake of Evil Dead, made by Sam Raimi?

Iirc, you aren't a film critic.

You remember wrong, I'm a critic with no credentials.

It's one of those things where it's supposed to be a sequel where Ash is dumb enough to go back to the cabin, but he just kinda failed in the execution. It's still a great film.

Pretty much this. I mean, it's not like young couples going to a cabin in the woods and finding evil is a new concept, why brand it Evil Dead when 1) it's missing the homedy aspect, and 2) doesn't even have Ash, or Bruce motherfuckin' Campbell.

So we're left with a typical slasher film where some kids find an ancient evil summoned from a book. Yay.
