Everyone complains about all of the American Political threads. This one is for Lootifer and all of his mates (that's how they say friends).

New Zealand seems like a pretty cool place from what I have seen. Here are some things I have read or seen about New Zealand and I would love for Lootifer to jump in with some awesome stuff I haven't heard about.

1) Lord of the Rings filmed there
2) They have Kiwis
3) There is an awesome hotel where this guy took like planes and stuff and made rooms out of them
4) They love technology and will take immigrants who specialize in this
5) Flight of the Conchords
6) Don't they have some crazy sheep shearing contests?
7) For interviews they don't wear suits
8) A manager doesn't have employees but team members, very friendly people

Both New Zealanders and Aussies are almost unfailingly friendly. NZ'ers lean a bit more to the crude sense of humour, which is prettty awesome if you're willing to have your Brit prudishness have a few holes poked in.

Ozzies have a similar sense of humour, but definitely less so.

My experiences tend to go:

You will always have a good time with Australians.

You will have an awesome time with New Zealanders, but you might not remember it.

Both countries know how to have a good time.

Yeah, I like both countries and their members. But New Zealand's weather and grass and stuff. That beats desert.
I have an Australian friend who seems to be very crude. I think they just don't have that taboo the same as we do.

1) Lord of the Rings filmed there

Correct

2) They have Kiwis

Correct; infact in addition to celebrating a flightless bird, we also pay hommage to the most overweight parrot in existence and a sheep to human ratio of in excess of 10:1 (it used to be higher but you americans love our dried milk)

3) There is an awesome hotel where this guy took like planes and stuff and made rooms out of them

Um not sure, but like america we have our fair share of whacky highway attractions

4) They love technology and will take immigrants who specialize in this

Hrmmm, not so sure. We have been early adopters for things like EFTPOS (electronic point of sale technology), but we are pretty backwards in some things too, like our telecommunications industry for example (I believe we are behind nigeria in quality of ISPs)

5) Flight of the Conchords

Yes, they are fucking awesome

6) Don't they have some crazy sheep shearing contests?

We have sheep shearing contests, young farmer of the year awards, and a vat of other 'ard man type events such as the coast to coast.

7) For interviews they don't wear suits

Our business culture is one of the most relaxed in the world. For example I work in a market analyst role; id get laughed at if I wore tie to work

8) A manager doesn't have employees but team members, very friendly people

Relates to 7, very relaxed business culture. I have had tequila shots with my bosses, bosses, boss

In addition:

9) 2nd place in amount of gold medals per capita after Jamaica; and we are currently beating aussie in total golds, bahahahahahahahahahaha, suck it!

10) We are in the top 5 most economically free countries in the world while maintaining a welfare state

edit:

11) We (us and auzzie) have one of the highest consumption rates of alcohol in the world, yet we dont actually drink all that regularly, in other words we put the binge in binge drinking

12) We are known for our mullets, see our recent track cyclist Shane Archbold

They do not, and you will come to love it. Both countries are simply more friendly.

What is your economy like?
I know going to Trader Joe's I see lamb products from New Zealand, so it can't be half bad.

But as far as jobs go. Is your economy doing fine? I've also been curious about your healthcare. I had a friend awhile back in New Zealand but we fell out of contact. He always had good things to say about the school and healthcare.

We are a small primary producer, so basically we are a price taker as far as the economy goes; if they world economy is shit, ours will be.

So far we do ok, because while the world economy as a whole aint doing that great, Australia is still riding their mining -> china wave; that kinda props us up.

Healthcare and Education are both fully government funded. So that means plenty of complaints but generally it works pretty well.

Australia is still riding their mining?

On the Education/HC, anything provided by the government will get complaints.

Here is one of my fav Flight Of the Conchords.

Edit: Learning how to post a youtube.

Hahahaha, thats pretty much my fav too lol.

And yeh Aussie are doing pretty well with their mining industry since they have huge natural resources and an unlimited buyer of them (China). However demand in China is slowing so who knows, but right now they do ok :)

Me too. I didn't even think he was talking about NZ before I read the OP. I was expecting:

Sentient fruit. While on the topic of NZ, I hear the weather's consistently nice. I'd like to visit.

BUT:

8) New Zealanders will smile to your face and then literally stab you in the back
9) They think drugs and violence are awesome and encourage their children to do them from an early age
10) New Zealand's infamous dolphin-murdering tours have turned the country into an international pariah. Over 2,500 dolphins are murdered in new zealand every year just for fun. They don't eat them or anything, they just throw the mutilated bodies back in the sea while laughing cruelly at racist or misogynist jokes.

11. NZ has more golf courses per person than any other country in the world

12. kiwi's and aussie's military fight so well together they have a joint name, ANZACS (Australian New Zealand Army Corp)

13. Australia has more sheep than any county in the world but we make jokes about kiwis and sheep because they have more sheep per person than anyone.

Lootifer, do you have any tribal tattoos? Or has anyone in your family been chosen to bear the family tattoos?

How many New Zealanders would you say practice that tradition of tribal tattoos?

I met a half-white fulla, half-kiwi man whose family practiced this tradition.

I'd assert that 1% of all Maori design tattoos are practicing any kind of tradition. 99% of them are done because the person having them done thinks they look good.
