That's too bad. I've really been hoping they do away with the conferences/divisions for a while now. Just simplify the whole thing, top 16 teams make the playoffs and run a bracket that way, get rid of the garbage where the division winners automatically take the higher seeds. It's never been fair to the stronger divisions where they lose home ice advantage just because one division (coughSEcough) is weaker than the others.

Are you kidding me? Their games are embodiment of horrible defence and even more horrible goaltending. Exciting to watch but send the wrong message about what it takes to be successfull in the league.

I was expecting someone to say that but while I am a defense-lover myself, I don't think it takes away from the games. I'm just saying from a subjective view that this is the best rivalry in hockey at the moment. Not nearly as much history as Bruins/Habs, Wings/Hawks, etc., but it's good right now.

But trust me, unless Fleury gets back to 09 form or Bylsma starts emphasizing defense, I'm fearing we won't be able to make a great run in the playoffs.

It's definitely the best rivalry going right now, since both teams are playing well and you have goonish players on each side that hate each other. The Toronto/Montreal rivalry is starting to come back since both teams aren't sucking this year.

For my money, the best game I've watched thus far was the Hawks/Wings game last Sunday. It was a big rivalry game but played clean, fast, and hard. A lot of fun to watch.

The season is only half over and I already hate living in Calgary.

Of course it's never a good night when they are playing.

Let's hope that continues on Saturday. I would love it if the caps went into sunday's game against the rags with a four game winning streak.

I don't know. I do know that when I got into my car tonight, after a Knights of Columbus meeting, I turned on my satellite radio to hear the third period of the Ottawa Senators / NY Rangers Game. The Senators scored, broke the 2/2 tie and went on to win the game in regulation! Sweet Revenge.

That's right though, the Islanders do play the Washington Capitals tomorrow. Conflict of interest here. I mean I can't wish to see the team coached by Adam Oates (RPI Class of 1985 and hall of famer) loose.

I'm extremely surprised by the habs, i thought they were gonna finish between the 11th and 14th place in the east .... right now they're playing like there's no tomorow ( 11th game in a row with 1 point ).

The referees in the NHL are probably the worst in all 5 major sports in america, and Shanahan is not doing his job at all, what a joke !!

wait, what's the fifth major sport?

Bowling, if peasant sports can be sports.

Was talking about soccer since Nascar and Golf are hobbys, not sports

Good thing for the NHL, good thing for teams like Colorado, Winnipeg, Detroit, Columbus, who'll be playing more in their time zone. Playoffs are gonna be more fun to watch with the wild-card games.

Losing a single game doesn't seem like a collapse to me...

I certainly did not mean to imply a collapse of the entire organization and the surrounding city. Just that this streak was finally ending.

Last night's game against the Leafs was ridiculous. I shit my pants in the third a few times.

I dont even want to talk about what the hell happened to the Caps this weekend. 6 penalties against the Islanders. Horrible second period against the rags. Sigh...

Ovechkin managed that two penalties on one play...play. I was impressed.

Also, even without Malkin the Penguins are a juggurnaut. Letang is the best offensive d-man in the league right now, Kunitz is flourishing now that Crosby is healed from his concussion and the addition of Bennett makes the Malkin-Neal line that much more dangerous.

I would be surprised if we don't make it to the Conference finals.

The lockout is over. I think there's another hockey thread somewhere that isn't about lockouts.

No there isn't. This is the 2013 season thread; like it or not.

I like it not. And yes there is another hockey thread. It was created the first day or something.

It was certainly an exciting game. As much as I would have liked the win, taking a point away from a game against the Pens is nothing to be ashamed of.

Interestingly, the Pens and Leafs were the only two teams without an OT or shootout loss, before that shootout.

The Flyers have shown that the Penguins don't play well when faced with a physical opponent. All it takes is one series against a team that plays the body, and the Penguins can be stopped.

This is why I hate the schedule this year with no inter-conference play.

No it doesn't. All it shows is that Philly is Pittsburgh's Kryptonite.

Pretty much this. I mean, I sort of agree that physicality is the best gameplan against a fast, skilled Pens squad but the Flyers are by far the best at it. We're 2-8-0 against Philly at Console Energy Center which is turrible.

Anyway, we played a great game tonight. Doubled up Boston in shots and despite missing a few open-netters in the first two periods we put the pressure on in the third and scored three.

Guess we're going to see Detroit a lot next year.

Also, 7 in a row, bitches. Four without Malkin, arguably the second best player in the league.

Man are we struggling this year. Currently trailing Edmonton 2-0 on the road. We've scored 1 power play goal on the road all season. ONE. For fucks sake.

Well, we got our second power play goal (on a gift from Jeff Petry, who shot the puck into his own net), and Datsyuk won the game in OT. So, finally got a win.

Just look at how Zetterberg and Brunner have been playing over the past 2 weeks. They have a combined 5 points in March, over 7 games. For your top line to put up that kind of production, you need someone better than Jimmy Howard in net.

Ducks over spent. No way either of them is worth as much as Crosby.
