Don't be too quick, red wings are still gonna make the playoffs, not like my team. Short season 48-50 games, anything can happen, injuries in your divisions ...

Stamkos 50/50 ?? Like in the days !!

the shortened season is going to help out the Red Wings more than most because of their age. They can save their legs.

lolwut? Lidstrom retired, Stuart went back to California, our oldest defenseman is Nik Kronwall at 31. In fact, our oldest player is Bertuzzi at 37 - our stars are Datsyuk at 34 and Zetterberg at 32. We're not an old team anymore.

32 and 34 is pretty old for your two star players. And don't you still have holmström there somewhere?

Yeah. Also, even with Lidstrom retiring I think Detroit is still the oldest. I couldn't find age stats from this year but they have the highest average age from last year.

AoG, you don't know what you're talking about with saving legs during the shortened season. I think the opposite would be true in hockey. You'll have to play your ass of every game for 50 games. It's not like the NBA lockout where the spurs know they have like 40% of their games against terrible teams, in hockey regardless of the difference in skill, you're still gonna have dudes who want to knock the shit out of you, and that adds up. Further, it isn't as if most teams have 2 extra lines so that they can rest their top 6, you have to play every shift, every game (unless you're Alex Semin, I guess).

I will say that the caps look poised to take advantage of the shortened season the best. They can't put together a 98 game season (82 regular, 16 wins for the cup), but 66, we might have that. And it will buoy their confidence into a back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back stanley cup run, where Alex Ovechkin puts up 80 goals a year in the regular season and 25 goals/postseason to become the obvious choice for greatest player of all time.

Not really. There are 8 playoff teams per conference which means more than half the teams in the conference make it. Especially with the Kings winning it all last year, it's easier for an 8 seed to do well in hockey than in basketball.

The team decided not to bring Holmstrom back. He hasn't officially retired yet, but will soon.

And I wouldn't call 32 'old' - to me, that's in your prime yet.

Yea, I am glad I didn't put money down on the Leafs at 40-1. I am waitng for 60-1 before that.

Speaking of which:
what do you think the best odds here are?

New York Rangers 8/1
Pittsburgh Penguins 8/1
Los Angeles Kings 9/1
Vancouver Canucks 10/1
Chicago Blackhawks 10/1
Detroit Red Wings 12/1
Boston Bruins 12/1
Philadelphia Flyers 15/1
St Louis Blues 16/1
Buffalo Sabres 20/1
Minnesota Wild 20/1
San Jose Sharks 25/1
Tampa Bay Lightning 25/1
Nashville Predators 25/1
Carolina Hurricanes 30/1
New Jersey Devils 30/1
Washington Capitals 30/1
Anaheim Ducks 30/1
Toronto Maple Leafs 40/1
Colorado Avalanche 40/1
Edmonton Oilers 40/1
Montreal Canadiens 40/1
Dallas Stars 40/1
Phoenix Coyotes 40/1
Ottawa Senators 40/1
Florida Panthers 40/1
Winnipeg Jets 60/1
Calgary Flames 100/1
New York Islanders 100/1
Columbus Blue Jackets 100/1

I can get Columbus at 150, not that I would. I would hold out to 10 for LA. Detroit I got at 16. Pittsburg at 8 is a good deal.

Philly, San Jose, Carolina, New Jersey, Washington would be some good secondaries.
