THE DEBATE IS OVER

Is this for the national anthem? One thing that drives me absolutely nuts and I find extremely disrespectful is when people start cheering and clapping, putting their hats back on and sitting down before the song is over. I stand respectfully and silently until the very last note is played.

However, I don;t think it is disrespectful to not put your hand over your heart. Personally, I put my hands behind my back.

Agreed, in fact I would go a step further and say that I feel they should remain standing quietly until the Color Guard carrying the flag has departed.

As long as they're being quiet and respectful, I don't really have a problem with it either.

meh. I'll remain quiet just out of respect of others, but the only reason I stand when the national anthem plays is so people don't yell at me "HURRDURR WHY ARE YOU SITTING". Obviously I'm not very nationalistic and I don't see any reason as to why I should be. The US is a good country, don't get me wrong, but lately we've been screwing people around the world and that's nothing I take pride in.

Never mind the fact that arbitrary, imaginary lines separate me from people not too far north from me.

I'm not very nationalist either. However, my perspective is probably a little different than most because my cadets are the Color Guard I referenced above, in my cases.

But I actually see what you're saying, particularly that it's difficult to take pride in a lot of the things we do overseas.

1. Think it'd be funny if ol' Woodruff were screaming "GET OFF THE COURT, FASCISTS!" at his own colour guard.

2. People aren't supposed to cheer/clap after any national anthem at any point. And yet they do. Canadians are the worst.

3. Also can't stand women who take off their hats. Only men are supposed to remove cover. Also, you're not supposed to stand during the fanfare, if your anthem has one. Just during the melody. These people do everything right during the playing of the Hawai'ian Anthem (except clapping at the end) ... LEARN FROM THE HAWAIIANS ...
