So yea, Ireland has this "safety net" of health care, only it's really just an illusion and everyone dies waiting for the care they need; unless they are rich bastards who can afford their own "private" insurance. So it's really no different at all. That bastard who works four jobs still is screwed healthcare wise in the end and the rich man is happy.

Category One eligibility is the complete works - a 'medical card' which covers all ordinary and hospital costs. It also covers dental, opthalmic (eye) and aural (ear) services and appliances like glasses and hearing aids. Maternity and infant care services, including visits to doctors before and after birth are all covered. Prescribed drugs and medicines are also free.

You'll qualify for a medical card if your total income is below a certain threshold. There are various adjustments based on age and number of dependents.

your a moron and clearly just post the shit that comes out of your mouth whether it makes sense or not , im irish and i have had my medical card since i was 18 and anytime ive gone into hospital or any other medical care i was taken care off straight away and had no bills to pay. my father had multiple heart attacks a few years ago and went through months of therapy and again paid absolutly nothing. waiting lists are a common site in every country whether you get it for "free" or have to "pay" for your care.

I know nothing about healthcare in Ireland, but I know this statement is not correct. In general, countries with multi-payer systems have low or no waiting list (the Commonwealth survey showed the U.S. and Germany, both multi-payer systems, at 8% and 6%, respectively for surgeries), while countries with single-payer systems have long waiting lists (the same survey showed the factory hospitals of Canada and the UK at 31% and 44%, respectively), which seems to correlate with anecdotal experience.

Monopolies always result in allocative inefficiency.

If you cant afford to pay for treatment in a country like the US how would you get on a waiting list for the treatment.
The waiting list stats between the US and Ireland are not directly comparable.

The stats you quote dont count those who cant pay but that doesnt mean they dont count (unless you are in the Tea Party where those who cant pay might not be considered 'legitimately' sick).
