Well, since we don't really have an official tech help forum on here, I was just wondering if I could get some help here >.< Since this is one of the only few sites working at the moment for me (Google isn't even working )

Basically, I was chatting with friends on different sites, then my connection went *Poof* This happens to me once in a while but I restarted the computer, routers, and everything, but I'm still running into the same problem. I can't access photobucket or I would upload a picture for an example of what it looks like to me >.< I'll upload once/if sites start coming back online, but I wanna find out how to fix this problem before it happens again and again, not wait for it to heal its self -.-

OS: Vista
Connection: Dial-up

Sites still work like this one and facebook + a few others, but really? I don't want this to become a habit for my computer.

Also, on a side note there's another problem that I have which CANNOT be taken a picture of.. my camera is too slow and the print screen button wont actually save it, it's like it's not there. Once in a while my computer gets a bit overrun I believe and the windows start button icon flashes in front of the screen, blocking my view COMPLETELY.

I've looked online while Google was still looking for similar problems and either the sites wont load or they give useless information like site being temporarily unavailable (Google being unavailable? Yeah right...) so try back later. No, this is something on my computer that I need to fix before it causes something worse to happen.

I run AVG anti-virus scans daily.. so either AVG sucks balls or it's not a virus. I've used random online anti-malware programs once in a while to fix "key registrations" when once in a while my programs start to not letting me access them, but it's not that because I can access my games, Google Earth, etc.

I don't know of any solutions, but this is more of an [Off-Topics] thread, so I'll be moving it there. Good luck with your computer,

Have you had any recent thunderstorms? And did you leave the computer plugged in while the power shorted?

Get AdBlock+ and Do Not Track Plus to cut down on download times from websites.

Also, is AVG blocking anything? Did you try loading seemingly down websites with AVG completely deactivated (no firewall, anti-virus, monitoring blah blah blah)?


And, check to see if there's anything weird loading in your startup (and that isn't from microsoft)

1. hold Windows key + R
2. Type in "msconfig"
3. Click on the Startup tab and Services tab, and see if there's anything out of the ordinary.

Perhaps a virus corrupted your "hosts" file, and is redirecting you to an infected site that your browser automatically blocks?
If certain system files are corrupt and automatically editing registry values, you can try repairing them through the command prompt by typing

sfc /scannow

Make sure to install all the latest definitions for your antivirus too.

or, if you say the problem usually sorts itself out, it could be a bad IP cache, in which case you could try the command

ipconfig /flushdns

in the prompt

urgh... I used to dial up tech support... made me crazy enough to join the military...


alright, for starters, everyone's made good points... you're running vista on dial-up... neither good in itself, and horrible together... but you have a few options, since this mostly seems OS related.

for starters, AVG, while ok, is VERY far from perfect, and it doesn't always work against non-virus malware (ie spyware etc.) try Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html it's free and I've used it several times to clean up my own computer. Also, you might want to try shelling out for a better antivirus, like Kapersky.

once you're 100% sure your computer's clean, try cleaning up your hard drive a bit (delete old programs, clear temp internet files, back up porn to external HD etc.) then force it to do a defrag. Hopefully this will help.

To supplement this, GlarySoft Utilities has some really good (free) utilities available for everyday computer management. I use them myself and have nothing but good things to say.

But yea, everything of course sorted its self out, so I'm running a few virus scans with AVG and the one you linked me to.

Also if it happens again I'll try /'s idea and see if it is the cache, because I seriously wouldn't doubt that crashing on me at this point For now, it seems to be in the all clear, I'll upload a picture tonight or tomorrow just so you guys can see exactly what it tells me.
