Was he banned only because of the Simmetry thread??

Was he really banned? If so, that's really lame. I wasn't a big fan of that thread but he's the guy we love to hate.

I don't love to hate BBS, but he was clearly cyber bullying and deserved what he got.

I'm opposed to all bans, whether or not you consider the ban to be justified. If you don't like somebody, foe them. It's not fair that people who do enjoy someone's posts have to sit on their hands because somebody else has personal issues with them.

He's one of the most active contributors to this forum, that should have been taken into account IMO. I bet it didn't.

i think a ban may have been an overreaction

but most of you were supporting his bullying in that thread. i consider that bullying as well.

nobody has any personal standards anymore...

I wouldn't have said "most" J9B. I think only Nietsche and FunkyT posted in that thread out of the above posters.

This is my position, but I would qualify it by stating that BBS was clearly baiting and flaming with that thread. So if we are going to be doing banning, I believe it was a valid ban.

Baiting and flaming is pretty commonplace, however. The thread was locked after all. Now if he went and started another similar thread after that, maybe a ban would have been appropriate but, cmon people.

I personally found the thread he made to be in poor taste, at best... but I kept my nose out of it.

Yup, I'm serious. Many people experience extreme pain in death but embrace it because it is in their faith to do so. Just because your personal faith is weak doesn't mean it can't be all- important to someone else. You think just because you value comfort over religion means that everyone does? You're the one with the twisted view, friend.

Death sucks, I understand that, but you're all lying if you haven't made any jokes about people dying/cancer/anything that kills people, etc.

The ban is horseshit but people have gotten banned for less stuff. By definition, yes, he was baiting and trolling, but it's hard for me to believe that Symmetry was actually affected by it.

Seriously though, the hypocrisy of it all is just stunning.
The main reason so many people object to it is because they personally have been affected by the subject or they lack faith and are therefore terrified of dying from it. If the joke had been about the plague I'll bet the reaction would have been much less fiery because the plague has never touched their lives.

I have never even really touched religion on these forums outside of coming out as an agnostic. And I just thought the joke was of poor taste. Does BBS need to be banned, probably not. But I think he's a dick and will treat him with such regard in the future.

If it took you this incident for you to learn that BBS is a dick than you have never read a BBS post before. And this is coming from the King of Dicks*.
