Do you think Disney overpaid?

(IIRC it said roughly half of $4 billion, with some sale of stocks or some such).

I honestly don't know. What's the going rate for trademarks and tradenames of famous characters? I suspect licensing revenue will be tremendous, with or without the new Star Wars movies. Plus you have the Indiana Jones franchise and some other things in there. But $4 billion seems like a lot.

I can't wait to see the gems that the new Star Wars movies are going to be.

Wonder how they're going to handle all the Expanded Universe stuff? Is that just going to be declared non-canon now? I mean, everything past Return of the Jedi has already been covered...

That's a great way to market Star Wars 7

Star War 7: Now with Less Lucas!

Well, there are these things to consider;

Original trilogy-Good acting, horrible special effects, no Jar Jar, had Ewoks, had Chewbacca.

New Trilogy-Good special effects, horrible acting, had Jar Jar for 2 movies, no Ewoks, no Chewie. Oh, and whiney future Darth Vader.

GOOD NEWS?

... George Lucas has sold Star Wars rights to Disney, which plans an Episode 8 in 2015.

http://www.deadline.com/2012/10/disney- ... s-creator/

... I'd rather it were Miramax or similar... but it would be hard to do worse than Lucas' last three attempts.

I won't see the film in movie theatres probably, but if it ever gets on Netflix, I'd probably watch it.

wait, what happened to Episode 7?

Also this sounds like an awful idea. Lucas is trying his hardest to ruin the original 3.

Maybe if Episode 7 reallly realallllly sucks, then Episode 1-3 will become relatively better.

I suspect movie manipulation here.

One of the best arguments against calling yourself a Star Wars fan I've ever seen has to be the franchise. Most Star Wars fans like Episode 4 and 5, and think Return of the Jedi was good, but a bit disappointing. Then, they generally write off the new movies and the animated Clone Wars.

So, if you only really like 2 of the 7 Star Wars movies, it's tough to really call yourself a fan.

Can I call myself a Matrix fan despite loathing 2 out of the 3 movies?

... Lucas remains as "creative consultant" .....

... That's not good.

... Who wrote and directed Hell-Raiser? That would be a good movie if they did Star Wars 7.

...

Not really, unfortunately. You just like the Matrix.

Have that as compensation.

If I enjoy half of a band's albums, am I a 50% fan? Or not a fan at all? Or am I fan?

... Or am I fan?

Generic, impersonal "you", not Symmetry "you"

Fair enough, may as well leave a link to the red letter review of episode one on the off chance someone has been unfortunate enough not to see it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI

Yeah, I could have done a proper link, or a youtube thingy, but I think we're all burned out on Star Wars. I can't be bothered.

I've read some of the expanded universe books. I like Zahn's the best, but I wonder if Thrawn and C'Bouth and the rest would work in a movie. I feel like the story is not movie-esque enough. And the other novels just weren't that good.

The universe is rich enough or can be rich enough for additional stories. I would like to see that.
