Men Who Refuse to do Women's Work have More Sex

Married men and women who divide household chores in traditional ways report having more sex than couples who share so-called men’s and women’s work, according to a new study co-authored by sociologists at the University of Washington.

The new study, published in the February issue of the journal American Sociological Review, shows that sex isn’t a bargaining chip. Instead, sex is linked to what types of chores each spouse completes.

Couples who follow traditional gender roles around the house – wives doing the cooking, cleaning and shopping; men doing yard work, paying bills and auto maintenance – reported greater sexual frequency.

My girlfriends do the men's and women's work so I'm not sure where that puts me at. Not that I am being lazy, but Esmerelda is a skilled auto mechanic and Kat and Kit both enjoy the outdoors so don't mind doing the yard work. That's just how it works out in my family.

Highly accurate. I get some every time I talk about work. I don't know if it is to shut me up or because working on machines is so macho. Also, she says she prefers me without facial hair. I notice that when I have facial hair we get friendly more often.

Where did Kat and Kit come from?

My wife and I share chores. I don't know how much sex is "more sex" so I can't speak to that... but I'm happy.

6.6 Units of Sex (USx)

Men and women reported having sex about five times, on average, in the month prior to the survey. But marriages in which the wife does all the traditionally female tasks reported having had sex about 1.6 times more per month than those where the husband does all the traditionally female chores.

Yeah the clean shaven look is more of a "lifetime movie hero" role while the beard is the "caveman". Which would you think gets it on more, historically speaking?

The caveman obviously. That is why I am usually somewhere between caveman and clean shaven, otherwise nothing would get done around the house.

Hehe.
Well thank God our brains are more or less physiologically the same as cavemen's/women's, else us guys would really be getting the raw deal. I'm a pretty physical/mechanical guy at home but I know very few guys who enjoy rebuilding a transmission.

Unless there is a greater frequency of lying about sexual activity in those who share household activities compared to those who don't, or vice versa, this observation is irrelevant.

How much do you love survey data?

True, but there may be an angle here...
A more "macho" man might have a harder time admitting that his frequency may be sub-par.

About 37% as much as scientific data.

Fail. The ACS and SI recently (1970s sometime, but you would have to look up the exact date) adopted the Kinsey (Ki) as the International unit of Sex. It equivalent to the amount of body contact two people will have while exchanging one mL of body fluids over the time it takes tritium decay to travel one parsec, along a non-BCS superconductor.

Another possibility: The men don't refuse to do the "women's work" but the women just do it automatically. Same for the men. This leads to less arguing and more "happy time".

How did they define sex? Does Bill Clinton sexual relations count?
