I don't know, what foreseeable benefits does the Untied States receive by acknowledging Kim Jong-un's histrionics?
Is he a trustworthy ally?
Is there something we need from North Korea?
It's a shame that North Korea's draconian laws have possibly ruined the life of a US citizen, but that's just the tiniest tip of the iceburg regarding how many suffer at their government's hands. If there is to be an effort in the name of "humanity" or "justice", it needs to be a lot bigger than some minor press-mongering hostage negotiations.

OK the following is from a purely male perspective. Retractable penises expand during sexual intercourse. As a guy I really like the ability to urinate from an upright position, a feat possible because I have a penis that can be extended beyond my trousers. Yes I know, it is possible that a species can evolve enough intelligence to invent a "She-Wee" but I like the ability to not have to rely on silicone based technology to urinate.
Of course, i'm sure that the female might have other thoughts, especially if we consider the model of the duck, because the male penis would expand within the female vagina assuring the correct size every time! Mind you ducks also have corkscrew vaginae and penises and it's a lot more complicated than that but you get the general idea.
