The only reason I can think of must be a sexual one, but that makes the nation America look a lot worse than the gay community. Do you really think that gay people molest the scout kids? And if I'm completely wrong about this assumption, I'd be very delighted to hear why gay people weren't allowed at the scouts the past years.

I'm not gay myself, but I know a lot of gay people that I'd really like to hang around with for quite some time. I find it ridiculous that the USA decided to let gays in the scouts community just this week. It was discrimination in its highest form.

Now that I cannot unsee, I think he was trying to say, sarcastically, that we all know gay adult men are not attracted to teenage boys.

I gotta be honest with y'all. I don't really see how this changes much of anything. I mean, does anyone really believe that there were no gay boys in Boy Scouts before this resolution passed?

And I tend to think that as long as the Boy Scouts have and maintain strict rules about conduct, then this is a non-issue. Sexual discourse, regardless of which way it leans, has no place in scouting. Enforce that rule, and the orientation of the kids taking part in scouts is moot.

Just let 'em be scouts, for crying out loud. Scouting is good for kids.

The Boy Scouts, just like any other self-empowered organization, has had and continues to have the right to exclusive membership and to define what that membership looks like. What I DO NOT want to see, as a result of this change, is a change to the time-honored values that teach young boys about being good, responsible people. This is what being a scout is all about:

To keep myself physically strong,

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly,
courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty,
brave, clean, and reverent.

The BSA shouldn't compromise on any of that. Some people worry that the part of the BSA which is about morality and character will fall by the wayside in favor of the badge-collecting activities like navigating and map-reading, knot-tying, etc. But the BSA has no obligation to change its structure or its teachings. If gay boys don't like it, they can opt out, just as straight boys can.
