Any watch collectors in cc land?

Postby demonfork on Sun Nov 23, 2014 3:09 am

I am a pretty avid watch collector to the point to where it's become an obsession.

Right now I have about 25 watches in my collection with a Patek Philippe Calatrava as the crowning jewl.

All of my watches are analog with the exception of one digital Casio g-shock. The vast majority are mechanical movements with a couple of Quartz movements here and there.

My most recent purchase is a Hamilton khaki x-wind automatic chronograph.

I am currently in the market for a watch with a Tourbillon movement, maybe something skeletonized.

Any other collectors? Any suggestions for a good Tourbillon in the 3-5k range?

I got to say I like watches and I never really invested in them.
The one I'm wearing these last years is a nixon "the player" offered by my friends for my 30th birthday.

I was pretty close from buying this sweet thing a couple of years ago, but then I don't know why I didn't do it. A Raymond Weil freelancer, gorgeous!

I like the hamilton you bought.

Piaget has a few tourbillon mechanism watches, I don't know what styles you're into.

My guess is that in 2014 the calculator on your phone is most likely more user friendly than the one on your watch. I don t even know if back in the days people actually used their casio watch to calculate or if it was just to be a 80's cool nerd kid. Probably just useful for math exams where you weren t allowed to use a calculator.

I've always been trying find one of those with the Tiebout movement--possibly Cournot. It depends on the season.

The Nixon player is a nice watch.

I have a 51-30 chrono Nixon. It has white enamel over gold. Over time the enamel is supposed to chip off to reveal the gold finish underneath to add an element of patina to the watch.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the brand overall. They offer a very nice watch for the price.

I'm looking at some Stuhrling Tourbillon watches right now. I don't have any Stuhrling watches and I've heard mixed reviews about the brand. What's your take on the brand?

It's my foot. I lost my arms in a pretty awful go-cart accident last fall. I have to hold shit with my feet now.

Thanks for shedding light on a sore subject.

I'm pretty sure the Stuhrlings are a Japanese movements. I've had to get the second hand remounted once on one of them. Both are automatics 33 and 22 jewel. They are hit and miss though on quality. I'm sure if you spend the thousand plus dollars on a tourbillion movements you will be OK. I only spent four hundred dollars on each of mine and have had them for 2 years. My Oris is a pretty quality watch for its price. Its a 17 jewel auto and have had it for 12 years and it still keeps time without ever having it serviced.

My dad has the seamaster. Had to replace battery only once. He had to send it out to get repaired as Omega doesn't outsource service.

I might have posted this before, but my one weird watch fact is that most pictures of watches in advertising show the hands at 10 and 2 positions so they look like a smile. Apparently that makes people more likely to buy watches.
