It's sad there is no freedom of expression in Israel. If you disagree with the government line, even if you're a 120 pound woman who has never fired a gun in your life and has never been convicted of a crime, you are declared a "terrorist" and jailed or stripped of your civil rights. So, no, Israel is not like the United States. A person cannot be prohibited from running for office in the U.S. if they've never been convicted of a crime just because the Ruler declares them a dissident. Like in Israel.
