This story was told to me last week by a friend of mine who happens to be gay.

A person was at a board meeting of this very large not for profit charity. The chairman of the board was a large imposing person of African heritage.

Chairman: "I think we should concentrate on doing more for people of color."

Person: "Excuse me, but is that the currently correct term to use for African Americans?"

Chairman: "I'm not talking about African Americans! I'm talking about the LGBT community; you know the rainbow flag; all different colors."

Person: (SIGH)

So which one was the purple one again?

Even just looking at the phrase in terms of race, ethnicity or skin pigment ALL people are 'people of color'.
